WASHINGTON - The most influential national tea party group, backed by a $3 million campaign war chest, surprised Idahoans by endorsing freshman Rep. Walt Minnick's re-election bid. Not all local tea partyers were pleased.

Minnick is the only Democrat in the nation to land an endorsement from the Tea Party Express, the most prominent national organization in the burgeoning political movement.

Do you think if there was a majority of conservatives in Congress, regardless of party, Pelosi would be Speaker?
(honest question, no sarcasm intended or implied)

Yes, I do, if this majority had to be made up of the Republicans plus a healthy contingent of "conservative" Democrats. Face it, no member of a political party is going to vote against a powerful member of their own Party for the Speakership when their Party has the majority. Just ain't going to happen. Especially not with the gaggle of freshman and two-term "conservative" Democrats - they are in no position to go off on their own and buck the Party leadership, none whatsoever.

Hence, each and every Democrat, even the conservative ones, will vote for their own for Speaker. This is why I don't think it's productive to razz individual members for voting for Pelosi, per se. People were griping about Parker Griffith, the recent D-to-R in Alabama, voting for her. He was in that boat I described above.

This all being the case, though, it all boils down to the letters after peoples' names - as much as the purists and third partyists on here don't want to accept that fact. Our best bet is to vote for ONLY conservative Republicans - i.e. ONLY conservatives, and ONLY Republicans. Otherwise, we're just helping to enable Pelosi.

I have to agree, simply based on the fact that I’ve never seen a conservative democrat (other than Zell Miller possibly?)

Have you ever been to a tea party? Have you read the platform? They have said, since the beginning, they will endorse the candidate who will follow the Constitution. PERIOD. They have said this isn’t a Republican or Democrat thing, it’s a PATRIOT thing.

Yes I have been to a tea party .I have have fought for their right to assemble and petition for redress and to be milked by Sal Russo like holsteins . Yes . Most of my neighbors in Idaho and Utah , don't drink tea or coffee . But that's what it was called Tea Party .

From the article

People at Boise's tea party rally were divided about the Minnick endorsement.

I would say we were about evenly divided . Half couldn't believe it and half couldn't quit laughing . Walt is great .Congressman Minnick has voted with the Democratic majority for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 [7], the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act of 2009 [8], the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act [9], the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act [10], and against establishing spending caps through fiscal year 2014 [11].

He not only votes against what we want , he wants to be a club for growth hero and make Idaho the Poster child for " Oh spend the tax dollars somewhere else ,we're so poor a state now we won't notice" We are like West Virginia without the incest, as far as you know, and without the Pork Senator Byrd brought home . Can you name a congress critter from Idaho . Anyone ? Anyone ? I knew you would say Larry Craig . Well he is gone . The other one you have heard of is Frank Church . Ring a bell ? Remember why the CIA is now a branch office of the NY Times and is filled with people like Valery Plame ? That is the kind of rat ag states get for some reason . Must be the fertilizer . McGovern, Dashell , You know the rest . Walt is a Washington State carpet bagging Harvard law , non-law practicer . You know what kind of dirt goes to law school and does not serve his neighbors by practicing law A RAT . A Statist rat . A statist rat who uses statist connections to get rich and then find some hillbilly state like Idaho to get a seat in government . I never had a birthday party . But in addition to the tea party , I have been to a blanket party and I have been to a pig party . I have had enough of your tea party . I am starting a new party . Based on the parties I have been to , I have decided to call it the pigs-in-a- blanket-party . Like Sal Russo the pirate repugnican public relations firm owner who has co-opted your party of dupes , We will set out to find rat candidates in other peoples districts and endorse them because we don't want Chris Matthews to say we only endorse repugnicans and must be racists . The first rat candidate the pigs-in-a-blanket party endorses is Zoe Lofgren . Califa Dist 16 . Sorry San Jose area . . You have to understand , it is not about repunicans or democRATS , It is about Patriotism ,co-opting a movement for the RINOs even if it means sacrificing some little old district to the rats . Do any of you know who defined patriotism as being the last refuge of a scoundrel ? He even said it about 150 years before John McCain .

I do not purchase products because a sports legend endorced them

What if I had the voice of Tiger's deceased father say it was about patriotism and to prove they don't only support repugnicans , they will throw the Famous Potato State out with the garbage , would you then please vote for a rat ?

... said Sal Russo, a veteran GOP political consultant and one of the forces behind the Tea Party Express. "

One of the things the Tea Party movement must do to keep itself pure as a grass roots movement of real Americans is to NOT involve themselves with political consultants. They are the ones who always do a poll and then advise moving toward the center, to the left in other words, to attract the moderate undecideds. That just makes us another ho-hum political activists group.

Was this guy appointed or just self-appointed?

In this case, it may be that Minnick is the best of the available choices.

Minnick has to go. He is a Pelosi buttwipe.

Vaughn Ward is the best candidate for Idaho Dist 1, in the primary and in the Novemeber election.

Tea Party movements should NOT endorse anyone outside their own local elections during the primaries. Local folks know who should be voted for and can endorse them at the local level/state level. The Tea Party Express should butt out.
