Conan O'Brien to make TBS his new late-night home
AP via Houston Chronicle ^ | April 12, 2010, 12:42PM | FRAZIER MOORE

...The program will air Mondays through Thursdays at 11 p.m. Eastern...

O'Brien quickly fired out a celebratory tweet.

"The good news: I will be doing a show on TBS starting in November! The bad news: I'll be playing Rudy on the all new Cosby Show," he posted Monday on Twitter.

The surprise announcement hit the same day O'Brien starts a two-month, nationwide comedy tour in Eugene, Ore., amid persistent reports that he was likely to claim Fox as his new late-night home...

"In three months, I've gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I'm headed to basic cable," O'Brien said in a tongue-in-cheek-toned statement. "My plan is working perfectly."

...After giving O'Brien "Tonight," NBC sought to keep Leno on board with a prime-time show that quickly flopped. An attempt to move O'Brien to a post-midnight slot drew O'Brien's ire, and he walked away with a $32 million settlement package.

Although that put him in play for other networks, the deal barred him from appearing on TV until September. ___

TBS is owned by Time Warner Inc.

Conan is barely qualified to dry cars at a carwash.

Conan's one-liners are funnier than yours.

Maybe you should leave humor to the professionals.

I wish he’d push Lopez off the air. I change the channel anytime a commercial for that racist SOB comes on.

Not that I watch much of TBS though - they still show Roadhouse every week?

Oh, so Conan is also a racist. BTW, Lopez Show is not funny, but forced humor.

Laugh machine, please.

Conan should have stayed in third grade, where people still laugh at potty jokes!

TBS? Isn’t that the station with that lady whose hair always changes colors, and they are always begging for money?

ANYthing that pushes Obama-loving-Lopez to a later slot is ok with me. O’Brien is reportedly a lib, but it is rarely on display.

Conan O’Brien does have a few really funny bits. Triumph the Comic-Insult dog is always good.

I’m disappointed. I love Conan’s show, he’s hilarious, and putting it on a fourth-rate cable net like TBS almost guarantees its lack of success.

I was hoping Fox would get it...

Ok, thats not really fair. He has some original and funny bits.

How about this: When Conan was canned and on his last week, he did the bit about spending as much money as he could on the way out. Now he faked a couple of skits about wasting NBC’s money. Kinda funny. But the real bit was the intro music the band played for guests. “Lovely Rita” was played for Tom Hanks, cool $300K for the rights. That’s funny.

Now for reference my humor runs to the Carlin, South Park, Bill Hicks, O&A mode. Leno can be funny but he needs to cut loose of NBC. Letterman = unfunny bitter hack. For that matter Jon Stewart can be hilarious when he forgets to be the uber lib (Nancy Grace vs Duke LAX bit is comedy gold).

And yes sometimes potty humor is funny, but it needs to have a point.

And for that matter a lot of old comedians had the blue material but couldnt use it. I remember as a kid seeing Buddy Hacket on Johnny. Cut to commercial, come back and the audiance is roaring, Ed is laying on the sofa and Johnny has tears running down his cheeks, pounding the desk. I thought then, what did I miss. Years later, I found out that Buddy told the Aristocrats joke during the break.

Please for the love of God, if Conan offends you, DO NOT look that up.

So to sum up, humor is subjective. Unless you are Janine(sp?) Garafalo - nobody thinks she is funny :)

I don’t even have a tv anymore.

But I did like Conan’s musical guests many years ago. He’d bring on talents that other shows wouldn’t. I didn’t discover new bands watching his show but I did see bands I already liked getting their brief bit of national tv exposure.
