Real men get nostrils waxed

Before admiring the powerful muscularity of the latest pickup truck model, some men attending The Man Expo on Friday afternoon stopped off to get their nose hair waxed or uni-brow trimmed.

"I can breathe better," said Paul Garfield, 18, after taking his turn on the waxing table. "I won't have to deal with the pesky nose hair. It didn't hurt as bad."

Encouraged by Garfield, a handful of his friends lined up, one by one, for their own wax jobs.

The group of young men from Springville were among the thousands of men and women who ventured to the first-ever Utah event at Sandy's South Towne Expo Center. The two-day event, with its tag line of "All Things Man," showcased more than 150 exhibitors selling everything from outdoor grills to business suits.

After more than 20 years in the business of hosting events, mainly bridal shows, Todd Chiniquy partnered with other exposition veterans to create the Man Expo team.

"You've seen the women's expos and those type of events, but this right here is unique because it focuses all on men," said Chiniquy, as he pointed out four lines of people, mainly men, waiting to purchase tickets. "Our turnout has been strong."

Women, of course, are welcome to attend the event, but activities were organized to attract men. At one end of the massive convention hall, a younger crowd showed off their skateboarding tricks on ramps, while nearby basketball and arm wrestling competitions were also being staged...

The event's multiple competitions offered prizes in all shapes and sizes, from T-shirts for the guy who rides the mechanical bull the longest to $1,500 in hair-removal treatments for the guy with the hairiest back. The biggest prize of all? The sparkling new red Lamborghini parked near the entrance.

Henry Waxman just tells his barber to run the clippers around in there two or three laps.

After reading this I think I'll leave my DH alone about his "nasal grooming".

I'd rather see a little hair than to have him go wax anything.

And really, wax nose hairs? OUCH! I can't even imagine how much that would hurt. I'm getting tears in my eyes just thinking about it.

I don’t use a wimpy little razor for shaving either.

I use a hammer to pound the whiskers in and bite em off from the inside.

Fer cryin out loud ladies, when your sons are teenagers buy them a $10 electric nose hair trimmer and have him learn to use it when necessary. No need to form another cottage industry around turning even more men into mirror addicted metrosexuals.

How terrible for you! My dermatologist suggest putting a spot of Bactroban (a cream based antibiotic) in each nostril every day or so to prevent infection.

I was amazed at the range of patients getting iv-antibiotics. A young Marine had a deep knee infection. A young girl of 15 had a salt block fall on her foot and developed into a MRSA infection. Another young girl fell from a horse, damaged her elbow, and developed MRSA infection. Middle age man scraped leg on fence post...MRSA..18 year old football player..on and on..Despite the once in a while news report, I don’t think the general population is aware of just how pervasive it is, or how dangerous. I worry more about MSRA than AIDS or cancer or many other high profile diseases.

Whenever I see him, I wonder if he has a wife and if so, what does she look like. He needs a nose and ear job.

My routine is for a 7 day treatment every couple of months. It is important to use one that is effective against MRSA. Also I like the above treatment as opposed to a little every day. Don’t want to be breeding any more drug resistant buggers.

These days hospitals are dangerous... especially for persons with compromised immune systems. The situation will deteriate further with Obamacare. Because of the over-use of antibiotics we now have strains of bacteria that are resistant to treatment known as MRSA.

Emergency Room physicians are notorius for perscribing antibiotics for viral infections to keep people happy. How would you feel if you got a thousand dollar emergency room bill, a thousand dollar ambulance bill and all you got was advice to go home and take over-the-counter meds? Where I work the majority of our emergency room ambulance transports are innapropropriate. But don’t worry almost none of our “customers” pay a dime. The taxpayers and the rest of us take care of it.
