If you think about it, Norway was the first successful combined op of WW II.

War hero rejects military medal

WWII veteran Leif Kjemperud doesn’t want the prestigious Norwegian War Cross. He says he isn’t interested in receiving the highest honour one can get because of its role in the war in Afghanistan, according to Romerikes Blad.

The 88 year-old from Hønefoss in Østlandet was a member of the communist saboteur organisation called “Osvald-gruppen”.

Earlier this week, the government decided to confer the cross on its members for the first time in 60 years, awarding it posthumously to Captain Eiliv Austlid who was shot by the Germans in 1940. Just 147 Norwegians have been decorated with it previously.

But Kjemperud says he doesn’t want the partisan group likened with today’s offensive.

“Norway is an occupying force in Afghanistan. This can’t be compared with the battle we fought as members of the resistance against the Germans,” he tells NRK.

On this day 70 years ago Quisling went from being a name to a noun.

Now quizling is synonymous with traitor.

I wanted to get this posted early in the morning, but I had a lot going on since 5 am this morning. Right now we are completely captured by the invasion of Norway and Denmark and as a result some important things sometimes slip through the cracks. As most of us know the invasion of Poland created quite a stir with American policy makers and their war planning. The Joint Board (predecessor to the Joint Chiefs of Staff) was tasked with the creations and often modification to what would become known as the Rainbow Plans. Today revisions of 3 of the 5 Rainbow Plans were approved.

The JB [Joint Board] approved these changes in the RAINBOW directives on April 10, but with weeks they were totally overtaken by Hitler's stunning military victories in Europe. Hitler's success called into question the basic political assumptions behind RAINBOWS 2, 3, and 5 - alliance and concerted action with Britain and France - while posing a potentially mortal threat to U.S. security in the Atlantic and Western Hemisphere - Allies and Adversaries, by Mark A. Stoler, p. 24.
Just as the Rainbow plans got settled, the applecart immediately got tipped over.
