Apple Sells 300,000 iPads on First Day
The Wall Street Journal ^ | April 5, 2010 | Kerry Grace Benn

Posted on 04/05/2010 6:44:39 AM PDT by myknowledge

Apple Inc. said Monday it sold more than 300,000 iPads in the U.S., including preorders, on the first day the device was available.

The company didn't give a precise figure, but the tally was below the estimates of some analysts.

Buyers flocked to stores starting Saturday after weeks of publicity about the tablet-style computer.

Apple hadn't offered iPad sales forecasts, but over the weekend, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster more than doubled his initial first-day sales estimate to between 600,000 and 700,000 units, including preorders, based on longer-than-expected lines at stores and high expectations for online preorders. He had also lifted his 2010 forecast to 5.5 million units from 2.8 million.

I think they were making a pretty good living off of it, they’re the largest store in a pretty expensive strip mall, and another box was coming in every 10 to 15 minutes. And there’s an Apple store in town so they aren’t the only ones fixing Macs. You can throw all the LOLs you want around but reality is reality and reality is Apple’s break, and everybody that says they never do is wrong. I know EXACTLY how Mac people take care of things, they bring them to Apple or Apple fixers, and you know it too. You’re perpetuating a myth, and I’m pointing out that it’s BS, doncha know.

You must have missed my earlier comments. I've had Macintosh computers continuously since 1984 and many different models and usually several at one time. I really don't know what to tell you about fixing them, because I've never had a repair with all my computers in over 25 years... doncha know ... LOL...

It's one of those areas that I've never had to contend with -- which is why I like Macintosh so much.

I hear the same thing from other Macintosh users, too... so I had no idea what some people may be doing with those Macintoshes in that town... :-) Is it something "in the air" or what?!

I have heard that Macintosh repair people are like the Maytag guy... ya know... just sitting around and waiting and waiting and waiting... not a good business to be in... sorry to tell you (if you're thinking about being a Macintosh repair person) ... :-)

I didn’t miss your earlier comment, I understand that the plural of anecdote is not fact. The FACTS are that Macs break, maybe not yours, but plenty enough of them to support many businesses that fix them, plenty enough for Apple to include a Genius Bar in every Apple store. So Apple can admit the simple fact that indeed their stuff breaks, time for you to face reality, doncha know.

The FACTS are that Macs break, maybe not yours, but plenty enough of them to support many businesses that fix them, plenty enough for Apple to include a Genius Bar in every Apple store.

The "plenty" you're talking about is a scarcity, when someone wants to "make a living" repairing them.

Really, I encourage computer repair people to work on the Windows boxes, if they really want to "make money"... I mean... I'm not against repairmen making money -- they just need to know what is the "box" that breaks the most (by far). And that's those cheap knock-off Windows boxes, for sure ... LOL ...

I don't know why you would want to steer potential repair people into such a "dead end business" such as repairing Macintosh computers. I don't think you're being very fair to those repairmen's families. They deserves shoes and socks just like any other kids in other families... :-)

But, all a person has to do is go to one of these Macintosh User groups and find out how much they break... good luck finding someone who had to deal with a broken Mac...

BUT, hey! Talk about those Genius bars, they're great. I mean, if you can't figure out how to set up something peculiar that you're trying to do -- or -- you're simply new at the computer game, heck, the Genius Bar is great and they don't mind what kinds of questions you ask or what they need to show you.

Face it, there are a whole lot of people who are totally unfamiliar with computers and try to get someone like Best Buy or Walmart to help you with a computer ... LOL ... never in a million years unless you want shell out a ton of money first.

Apple does it for free... yep, that's right. You've got a question, just bring that ole puppy into the Genius Bar and show them what your question is -- and that's it. You get the answer and you're on your way -- "No Charge!" -- What a deal!

Yep, Apple has really gotten tuned into the consumer with that Genius Bar. It's great. Anyone can come in and find out anything they want. No problem!

What’s not a rumor is the number of major Flash-heavy sites that have already transitioned to an iPad-friendly non-Flash version.

They know the future and who sets the trends ... Apple is the name of the game, that's for sure... :-)

Sorry but that’s not true. Again, Apple understands their stuff breaks, they know that they are just humans and the things they make aren’t perfect. Sorry you can’t admit, maybe you should bring your head to the Genius Bar and see what the Apple guys can do for you.

The general trend is to make you pay for all content on the iPad.

Well... when is FRee Republic going to start doing that for iPad owners? LOL ...

I guess we all better get used to that pretty quick, iPad owners or not, since we're all crusing the same web ... doncha know ... :-)

Well, I'm sorry if you find it hard to believe that Apple's stuff is that good, but all you gotta do is talk to those Macintosh users who have a long history of it -- they'll give you the track record...

I think you've confused Windows users for Macintosh users. Now, if you're talking about Windows knock-off boxes... sure..., good luck keeping those things running ... LOL ...

I know it's just too hard for you to believe, but why do you think more and more people are going over to Macintosh? They're finding out the "Macintosh difference" that makes them real happy as a customer. :-)

BUT, hey! Even though I think the Genius Bar is a super-great thing, I can't say that I've ever had to schedule one of those appointments with those guys. This Macintosh is just too easy to use so I haven't had to ever ask them anything, doncha know.

However, I don't mind others asking them questions and I think it's a super great idea for all those new Macintosh users who are coming over from the crapware world of Windows. I'm sure they're having a real pleasant time with their Apple equipment.

AND... do you know what -- those Apple Retail Stores are logging at least 50% of their sales to people who have never had a Macintosh before and/or are from the Windows crapware world... what a deal!

Well maybe you should tell Apple that their stuff is perfect, then they could drop this whole section of their website: http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/

Of course that would mean they never had any harddrives that died:
http://www.apple.com/support/macbook/hd/repairextension/

Meanwhile, back in reality, no product made has ever been flaw free. Macs break, that’s a fact, lie to yourself all you want, but understand it’s making you look kind of silly.

I'm afraid you're the one who is looking silly if you think that repairmen can make a living repairing Macintosh... LOL ...

I mean, really ... if you want a repairman to "make money" -- I can guarantee you a handsome living in repairing the crapware from those beige Windows boxes ...

You just seem intent on putting these repairmen in the poor house by directing them to Macintosh... you must "have it out for them" or something ... LOL ...

Good old Mac cultists. Can’t even admit that Macs are made by humans and therefore subject to flaws just like everything else. Did you bother to notice the quantity of places one can get one’s Mac fixed? Seems there are lots of people making money fixing Macs. All I’m intent on doing is pointing out that you’re either delusional or a bald faced liar. Macs break, iPods break, iTouches break, EVERYTHING breaks, that’s the basic nature of reality, doncha know.

It's one thing if you've got a guy who only works on Macs.

But Macs are so stable and trouble free, how does the Mac guy ever get any actual experience?

Yawn. Now you go with the insults. So typical, so sad, so... expected. You’re always the same on these threads, bizarre LOLs that aren’t tied to anything even slightly funny, “doncha know” on things that aren’t true so actually nobody “knows”, and 100% silly obviously false statements like nobody can make a living fixing Macs. It’s funny for a short time, but then just pathetic. Have fun in the funny farm.

I mean, I didn’t pick that stupid idea out of the hat — you did ... :-)

Take it up with Apple, they know their stuff breaks, sorry you can’t seem to wrap your head around that very simple fact. We’re done until you get a map to reality.
