Heads up for Sharpe's movies fans: 'Sharpe's Peril'.
DirecTV Guide

Posted on 04/04/2010 9:43:42 AM PDT by DGHoodini

Was flipping through the guide yto see if there was anything of value to watch on TV tonight, to find that my local PBS station will be airing 'Sharpe's Peril' on Masterpiece Theater, at 9pm EST.

Never having heard of this "episode", I did a little research, and it appears to be a 16th Sharpe movie. One that i was not aware existed. I thought they stopped making them after the 15th one,( that was sort of anti-climactic for me).

But I've always been a big fan of these movies, and at first had thought PBS was going even wackier than normal, as they aired the (what I thought was the last movie first, last Sunday, and were somehow airing an earlier one I'd missed, instead of starting from the beginning.

But this appears to be a *new* movie, and a continuation of the India phase of the Sharpe chronology.

If I'm late off the mark, and others have already seen this...well, you know....But if like me, you haven't...Then I guess we're in for a treat, if it's on your PBS channel tonight as well!

The books are much better than the TV movies!

Sean Bean is remarkable. He smouldered in Patriot Games. He was great in LOTR as well.

Sharpe’s Peril should be good. Sharpe’s Challenge was on last Sun evening on Masterpiece.

Yes, And if you missed ‘Challenge’ last Sunday, you can watch it on PBS’s “Masterpiece Theater’ site if you’ve got a broadband ISP connection:

These are the Indian episodes before Sharpe went to Iberia. The movies redated the adventures so that they occur after Waterloo, allowing Bean to continue to play the role. It is a bit confusing for fans of the books and obviously Wellington’s life will not be saved.

Mebbie so...but all chopped up like that? I’d lose the atmosphere clicking through all those segments, rather than just waiting til 9 PM.

But the “official Sharpe’s website” has a preview of ‘Peril’ at this link:

Been hooked on Sharpe ever since I discovered Bernard Cornwell’s books at my local library. I’ve seen every Sharpe movie & didn’t recall ever hearing of “sharpe’s Peril”. Good to know it’s new. Can’t wait to see it!

OK...too many threads, same topic, I have been told.

IK, Having seen ‘Peril’, I can happily say that *that* was classic Sharpe! Liked it much better than ‘Challengr. (a clinker IMO) The only thing that could have made it better, was if they did an audio/vocal reprise of ‘Oer the Hills and Far Away’, from ‘Rifeles’ or was it in ‘Company’?

But that’s what I call ‘Entertainment’! >;)

Ugh. When I read the headline I thought of High School Musical. I don’t watch it, but my wife and kids do ...

The Sharpe’d movies are *nothing* like High School Musicals, or musicals at all, unless you start dancing any time you listen to 18th century soldiers songs. >Bo)

obviously Wellington’s life will not be saved.

How can it not, he was running England up to Victoria's time.
