Rabbit Costume Helps Cops Nail Traffic Violators
npr ^ | April 2, 2010 | MARY LOUISE KELLY

When a giant rabbit was spotted walking the city streets of Glendale, California, people might have thought Easter had come early. But this bunny was not delivering eggs. Instead, he was handing out tickets. The creature, it turns out, was a police officer in a rabbit costume. The outfit was part of a sting operation targeting drivers who failed to yield at crosswalks, not to bunnies, but pedestrians.

The police should be ashamed of themselves along with anyone who thinks this is an effective use of resources, time or money.

Time to pay your taxes.

The new “we need the money” police uniform.

(so much for respect from superiors)

Sounds like a harebrained scheme if ever there was one.

This is one tax I do not have to pay -- The get caught by a bunny tax, that is.

My unscientific observation is that liberals violate driving laws the most. So, let them pay the taxes!

It’s one thing to stop for pedestrians already in the crosswalk. It’s quite another thing when you have states like mine that pass laws demanding vehicles stop when pedestrians are standing on the corner....many of which do not have crosswalk markings. That is the state law in Wisconsin, but very few motorists heed it. Unless it’s by the cop shop. Imagine during rush hour on busy thoroughfares cars stopping (and creating traffic jams) for every pedestrian who wants to walk across an unmarked intersection.

Law Enforcement = Revenue Enhancement. Peace officers are enough to keep bad guys off the streets. But we don’t have many peace officers any more.

Lovely Rita, Meter Maid, under (not much) cover:

I'd stop if she were in the crosswalk.

The police should be ashamed of themselves along with anyone who thinks this is an effective use of resources, time or money.

Criminals know that for every cop that is involved with an activity like this, there is one less cop on the beat looking for real criminals.

I’m sure they crack a smile whenever a ‘safety’ checkpoint is announced.
