A yo-mama joke!
“Possible hardware glitch eh? Hopefully it is not the motherboard.”
Hopefully. Still under warranty with field tech but I really don’t want to do this...
Dang, 27 responses and yet no one has asked the most pertinent question: “Are you logged in?”
Yous guys are slack’n.
Can’t log in...the power is off here...
Got stinger over there finally. I had to copy to a network drive then drag and drop to C on sick machine. It took 3 attempts. Running stinger now.
I will probably copy over malware bytes after that. Stinger is running quickly and not locking up.
Do what I do. Every six months or so I take all the covers off and remove the that thing that looks like a 15 lb Himalayan but is actually just a dust bunny.
Freezing is often a sign of a hot CPU. Is the CPU cleaned off? If not spray it with some canned air. Other than the suspect any recent program adds? A lot of apps are now loading crap into the TCP/IP stack which can and will lock a PC if the stack can’t initialize properly on boot up. If so remove the recent addition.
Thanks. I will clean the CPU with canned air then look for any new files. I have not installed anything really new.
I am running McAfee’s download “Stinger” AV program. It is running fast through all the files and not locking on it. Sort of weird? It looks like a lightweight tool but it is doing seeks to the HD to ehck the files.
It is an HP with a Celeron and it has a hood over it where the hood sucks the heat out of the back of the PC.
I guess take the hood off. I have a wet vac I am carefully pulling any dust out of exaust fan and power back up fan.
Realtemp might tell you if it’s a heat problem:

I think you can have browser problems like that if you are running more than one firewall at a time. If you are running both AVG firewall and Windows firewall disable at least one of them. Whenever I have problems I always start by turning off everything that is not necessary.
Thanks.
Have a functioning rail line nearby?
Well that was several hours ago...
did it work?
“What to do? Have a functioning rail line nearby?”
Putting it on a high speed rail trip from Disneyland to Vegas would be good for it...
Start it up in safe mode, with internet support. Download Malwarebytes, the free version, and run it. This should take care of the problem, hopefully. It sounds as if you either picked up a virus or have some type of adware investation. If you don’t know how to start in safe mode, press f8 when your computer is rebooting.
