WASHINGTON Republicans were for President Barack Obama's requirement that Americans get health insurance before they were against it.
The obligation in the new health care law is a Republican idea that's been around at least two decades. It was once trumpeted as an alternative to Bill and Hillary Clinton's failed health care overhaul in the 1990s. These days, Republicans call it government overreach.
Mitt Romney, weighing another run for the GOP presidential nomination, signed such a requirement into law at the state level as Massachusetts governor in 2006. At the time, Romney defended it as "a personal responsibility principle" and Massachusetts' newest GOP senator, Scott Brown, backed it. Romney now says Obama's plan is a federal takeover that bears little resemblance to what he did as governor and should be repealed.

Ricardo Alonso-zaldivar, do you have a point?
Heil, Obama!
Yes, it's all the Republicans' fault.
Don’t you see, now that it is already falling apart it’s so very clear that the Democrats were duped by those evil Republicans into passing this bill.
Those evil Republicans! They are so tricky! *shakes fist*
If the Republicans had a bad idea, and the Dems stole it, what does that say about the Dems?
What a hit piece by the AP. The state/Federal dividing line is much stronger than political party lines and is one the AP completely dodges in this pice. One is etched in stone in the US constitution while the other is merely a set of policies that dictate how a country should solve its problems.
We can all question Mitt's core values because of the legislation he signed into law, but the legislation was for a state and presumably within the legal limits of the state's constitution. The current federal level law violates states rights in multiple dimensions.
New health insurance requirement ... was GOP idea

Another misleading headline from the Ass. Press? Why, I’m shocked!
Should read: New health insurance requirement ... was MITT ROMNEY idea
Read the article. It’s all about Romneycare and how it is similar to Obamacare. But then, why would anyone expect journalistic integrity from the MSM?
It was an idea by specific Republicans, it wasn’t a CONSERVATIVE idea. What the press doesn’t realize is this isn’t a battle of party versus party but ideology versus ideology. An R or D behind a name doesn’t always guarantee they fit into a specific ideology.
Yup. Its a disaster so obviously its the fault of all the republicans who voted against it.
stupid fat tricksy republicans!
They tricksed us! yes they did my precious!
that’s the point
They find one of the worst aspects of the bill and lay it at the feet of the party that VOTED NO.
Aint gonna work.
IMO, this is a sign that they know this bill is toxic.
If Romney is really now against Obamacare, he should come out and say that he and Mass tried this and it doesn’t work, costs are higher, access to care is lower and that’s what will happen nationwide.
“we tried it and it doesn’t work”
This is why the democrats need to create some violence and an enemy, to distract from their disaster and hold their slipping base.
just showing how the liberal AP is trying to cover for Zero and his ilk once again
The Republicans and Dims both dropped the ball on health care. It should have been reformed 15 years ago, but wasn’t. Then it morphed into socialism because it wasn’t fully addressed until now with the socialistic regime. The best part of the bill? I think it’s that those with preconditions can now find insurance.
A politician with White House aspirations stating he tried something that didn’t work?
Never happen.
Even Gov. Jerry Brown this morning on FOX stated that the Republicans should begin to work with the Democrats on any reform. NO< NO< NO.
Let this be the Democrats WATERLOO, once and for all. I hope the Republicans hold their ground and don't give an inch. DO not play NICE or make up with the Progressive Devils.
Anybody else get a FReepmail from a cowardly troll who won’t come out in the open?
