(Washington, D.C. 3/23/10) After their victory in health care reform, the administration is now considering the issuance of "Travel Papers" to American citizens in an effort to combat illegal aliens.
The source gave these details.
"This is an idea whose time has come. Americans would have to have government authorization to travel by air, car or boat. In essence, we'd want to know where they live, how they will travel, who they will see and where they will stay. This government service would only be available to American citizens which would give them the freedom to go where they want."
"Since illegal aliens aren't citizens, they will have no papers to produce at state lines or international boundaries. This limits their potential for transient movement and would hopefully convince them to return to their countries of origin."

Aliens are already supposed to carry their passports while they travel within the US. The old driver’s license should be sufficient for citizens. These are already checked.
Why don’t they just skip all these baby steps and put GPS microchips in all of us?

I was on an Amtrak train once when INS people got on and asked to see identification and green cards of people they thought were illegal. One guy just stared when they questioned him in Spanish. He was American, of Filipino background, and spoke no Spanish, and had no green card. Eventually the INS guy decided he wasn’t lying and left.
I hate the idea of carrying “papers” to prove I belong here.

Why? What’s the difference between this and Romney’s/Guillianni’s national ID card idea? Not much. When you’ve got Republicans proposing something, why be surprised the Democrats propose the same thing and “take it just a little bit further.”

That said, the (current) blueprint for immigration reform includes a biometric ID card for all those eligible to work in the U.S.
Of course, I'm sure it will be limited to just that.....
