MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- An Arizona salon owner wants to use toothless fish to remove dead skin from client's feet during pedicures.

State regulators call it an unhealthy practice that violates state law.

A judge is taking up the issue Monday in a lawsuit over a state ban on the practice.

Why regulate this? If some customers want to pay a woman to run fish against their feet, let them. [And no, I would never go there.]

How can you give a fish a pedicure?

Why do fish need pedicures? Is this taking the Delta smelt thing a bit too far?

I think this is where you submerge your feet in water and the fish nibble off dead skin. It’s supposed to tickle a bit and works pretty well..

It does work. In fact, similar fish treatments are used for skin problems such as psoriasis and eczema worldwide - very effectively too:

It only figures that here, government would try to regulate it out of existence. Probably because the guy who makes the fish isn't a donor.

Before you chuckle - this is actually a very effective, natural treatment for skin issues. No surprise that gubermint wants its grubby little paws of regulation all over it.

Well, instead of banning it, regulations are needed to ensure that the fish do not get overfed on dead skin to avoid obesity.

And ensure that old nail polish is not fed to the fish.

State inspectors can visit to keep a count on the number of fish and the hours they work.

I really don’t see how this could be harmful.

You mean that when you were a kid you didn’t go sit with your feet in the pond and let the little minnows nibble at your feet?

We used to think it was the funniest thing. Now they can add that to the game warden’s list of functions: make sure nobody sticks their feet in a body of water where little fishies nibble at their feet.

Huh. Turns out this is all taking place about a mile from my house and I’d never heard of it. My wife’s in the salon biz too. Have to tell her about this. She’ll get a kick out of it.

I do have to admit that I used to stick my finger in the tanks at Walmart before they closed them up. It tickles.

The headline alone... I see this every day in my local paper. It keeps my old brain sharp figuring out what the reporter or editor really meant. We’re losing the language and grammar and spelling and sentence structure.

It would probably like having a cat lick your hand, so long as they used the right sort of fish

Definitely not these
