Boy attacked by pit bull
Child remains in hospital

HOISINGTON – A young Hoisington boy remains at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson after being attacked by a pit bull terrier here Tuesday afternoon.
According to Hoisington Police Chief Kenton Doze, the 9-year-old boy was playing outside at a neighbor’s home when the dog got out of the house. “It just came up and bit him” on the ear. The names of the parents and the child are not being released.
The parents took him to the Hutchinson facility where he is expected to stay at least through today. Doze said he didn’t think surgery was required but he did need stitches.
Doze said Hoisington doesn’t have any specific dog breed bans. But, the owners of the dog are being charged under a vicious dog ordinance.
The dog was put to sleep and its head sent to the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Kansas State University to be tested for rabies.

Sure, I’ll agree that some people get their pits tested because of the bias, likely to try and show that the bias is largely unfounded. But you’re saying the “average owners” of the 721 Lab Retrievers, 831 Collies, and 720 Golden Retrievers were testing just for good fun?

In the end, it’s how you train and treat your dog and how you let your dog treat others. Genetics aren’t everything. Smaller dogs aren’t as feared... but that doesn’t make them automatically less aggressive.

very few Breed Specific regs stop with just Pitbulls...nearly anyone I’ve seen includes most Molassers
haven’t seen any data for the past decade but until then Rotts were mankillers at a rate of around twice that of Pits from 1981-1998
there is no doubt that working class guard dogs are more likely to kill than say a Yorkie although ankle biters have killed infants
People have to use common sense...big male working class dogs of all types take a lot more care and caution than Labs and Malteses...
I think lapdog peoples just don’t like guard dogs.
Aside from hunting dogs, I’ve never had anything but guard dogs...and if one does something dangerous to friends or family....I will kill it.
I bet these freaky folks here don’t like that either.

Wait until it attacks and you end up with the suit filed against you. Friend of mine used to sound just like the pit bull lovers on here. Cost hime $15,000 and says anyone that owns one is, to use your word, stupid.
Pit bull owners are criminals.
Incremental encroachment is their MO, and PETA has clearly announced their explicit goal and objective is to ban pits in order to set a precedent and obtain leverage to ultimately outlaw all animal ownership.
I’ve never owned a pit either and feel exactly the same as you.
To see so called conservatives behave this way is troubling.
I do own my first bulldog now though...he is just about ready for his first freeper pic at 7 months now...an incredible hog hunting dog...remarkable..but like any big dog...they have to be managed and socialized.
my first two dogs as a lad were Shepherds...Heidi and Smokey...
i think folks here don’t like who often owns and misuses these dogs....and they have a minor point there

We have two cats with our bulldog pup...so far cats are winning.
My oldest daughter’s ancient mini Dobie scares the beegeezuss out of said Bulldog.
Pitbulls do have to be watched around other dogs unless it’s make female and even then maybe....and that is probably true with any catch dog.
One of the Rules of Ownership I got drilled into me is “Never trust your pit not to fight”.
He’s always supervised, and I seperate them when we leave the house, even though he’s never given me any worry aout the chihuahua.
They remind me of a rhino and a tick-tick bird; brawn and brains. They’re good dogs.
Try to have an intelligent discussion about dogs, and the PB haters will call you names, make psychiatric diagnoses, and hint that you are a meth dealer.
It’s useless, those who want to ban something and limit freedom will find something to ban, and a freedom to limit. Rational discussion will have no part in it.
I can go online and did last night and find plenty of recent stories of other breeds that bit or killed a human....given their numbers, who often owns them and the fact they are guard type dogs Pits do bite with consequence at a higher rate than Scotties
so do nearly all guard-working breeds
there was a similar hysteria after the Doberman movies and after the Omen and Rotts
folks just get carried away
