I’ve never owned a pit either and feel exactly the same as you.

To see so called conservatives behave this way is troubling.

I do own my first bulldog now though...he is just about ready for his first freeper pic at 7 months now...an incredible hog hunting dog...remarkable..but like any big dog...they have to be managed and socialized.

my first two dogs as a lad were Shepherds...Heidi and Smokey...

i think folks here don’t like who often owns and misuses these dogs....and they have a minor point there

Agreed. A semi-automatic weapon, when malfunctioning and/or handled improperly, will invariably be more dangerous than a single shot.

An SUV, when malfunctioning and/or handled improperly, will invariably be more dangerous than a sub-compact.

A large, powerfully built dog, when malfunctioning and/or improperly handled, will be more dangerous.

For some reason, people are perfectly willing to take the human element and persona responsibility factors into account for the first two, but not the third. You are right about some irresponsible owners being attracted to pit type dogs, and the media loves to fuel this stereotype...it reminds me of the late 80's or early 90's when every shootout seemed to involve a "TEC-9" and how they now seem to involve an "AK-47". The media finds their rallying point or template, and won't stray from it, facts be damned.

To believe that certain physical characteristics imbue a dog with some sort of evil quality is absurd. Do pits attract some unseemly owners? Yep. Have their bloodlines been polluted to bring out the worst in them? In some cases...but these are all the doings of people acting irresponsibly, and sadly, when that happens in any field of endeavor, people get injured...but to restrict a liberty based on the irresponsible actions of a (highly visible, media spotlighted) minority should cause nothing but revulsion among people who value their freedom.

I simply don't understand how the crowd here will display nothing but harsh skepticism of the MSM's portrayal of the WOT, the Democrat agenda, firearm issues, economic #'s, global warming, etc., but be willing to, without question, buy into that very same media's inflammatory, highly biased, agenda driven portrayal of some nebulously defined breed or type of dogs. I find that simply mind-boggling.
