The South is rising again

The South is rising again. Before I go any further, let me clarify. Sadly, too many in our country possess the superficial and ignorant perception that the only impetus behind southern secession was to perpetuate the abhorrent practice of slavery. Therefore, when they hear such a phrase, their kneejerk reaction tells them this must be about race. I assure you, it’s not.

When the North invaded the South during the 1860s, it was to deny the southern states the ultimate expression of their sovereignty – the ability to withdraw from a union they had voluntarily joined.

Oh good Lord....are you saying that Lincoln was bad because he was racist?

Yes, he was a racist. Of course by today’s standards almost every American of that day would be considered a “racist”.

So should we condemn them all? Lincoln, as well as Lee and Jackson and Sherman and everyone else you would care to name as vile racists unworthy of any respect?

One more thing. You’ll be “pleased” to know that the new guidelines for History texbooks for the Texas schools now require that if a Lincoln quote is used, a similiar quote from Jefferson Davis is required to be printed opposite it.

Then that should cut the Lincoln quotes to zero, since I'd be hard-pressed to think of anything Davis said that was quotable.

Certainly, they should be considered worthy of respect. My point was an indictment of the present day usage of the term “racist” (A Communist term btw) and not an indictment of the men of that era.

It would be nice but where I live there are now way too many northerners....at least a quarter of the population now.

Fortunately when you get outside Nashville proper you get good Yankees...they are refugess from the mess they grew up in and their bad kin destroyed.

They are welcome here...as long as they leave my heritage alone....we honor their dead they had to leave here after we killed them same as we do our own...btw...it’s good manners after you kill your righteous enemy.

but in Nashville proper you get mostly bad Yankees...moonbat types wanting to destroy the city just like they did where they came from....Nashville proper is now run by a progressive Democrat block of blacks, hispanics, homosexuals and urban yankee transplant districts...and they have the power.

which I why I left for the rural area

The South is something of a victim of it’s success...like being the biggest freshest cowpatty in the field always get the best mushrooms but also the most flies.

Very similiar to Houston. I left for the boonies for the exact same reasons.

How many slaves would you own?

None.

The Confederate States of America would have abolished slavery, even in the "Deep South" cotton and tobacco states. The practice was already dying of "natural causes" in 1860; mechanized agriculture is the doom of slavery.

My father said “Have you seen Arkansas? It looks like and is run as a third world country.”

People I know from actual third-world countries have compared Washington, DC to a third-world country.

Hardly. Respect him or hate him, Lincoln was by far our most eloquent president and his speeches and writings are well worth studying. From his Lyceum address in 1838 to the last public words he spoke in 1865, the man had a command of the English language that few can match and none can beat. Insisting on a one-for-one with him and Davis has only one purpose, to remove Lincoln from Texas history books. Which is your right. But how can you complain when other's want to do it as well, only to parts of history important to you?

I submit that you could not find a single Southern leader in 1860 who shared that conviction.

That may well be true.

It's also colossally irrelevant.

You are master at soft selling yankee revisionism...I'll give you that.

I find it funny that folks like you guys laud Sherman's war on civilians ...your own former countrymen

yet would be the first to recoil if we did that in Iraq or Afghanistan and then give us the hearts and mind speech.

btw...you are right about southern allegiance to the state but also to the South...it's just something you will never grasp because you never had it

the north was way to fluid in population growth...it never had the same regionalism entrenched...nor a fairly homogeneous genetic pool

I agree they were both Christian enough which like the later European wars made it all the more tragic

now folks can debate forever what is conservative...Radical Republicanism or State's Rights and never reach a conclusion...it's subjective

what I would like here but never happens is discussion in context but since it's really all about race that's impossible in this era

when I grew up all this was discussed in context and it gave far less ammo to the progressives who have eaten away our fabric

that is something you yankee avengers here ignore

what you perceive as the evil of the South is not the only American evil in their sights.....being so PC about my heritage is a brick in the road to a deconstruction of western culture which unless we are quite lucky will destroy us in due time...go ahead and laugh...you won't laugh when amnesty gets voted in and the Left has a locked block for generations

it's all part of the same mindset...blame the white man for his success that he stole from someone else

On the contrary, the primary reason for the rebellion is never irrelevant.

Well, the Yankees have been doing it since the WBTS.

On the contrary, the primary reason for the rebellion is never irrelevant.

On the contrary, your statement has no bearing on what the CSA leadership would have been forced to do, despite their initial plans.
