The South is rising again

The South is rising again. Before I go any further, let me clarify. Sadly, too many in our country possess the superficial and ignorant perception that the only impetus behind southern secession was to perpetuate the abhorrent practice of slavery. Therefore, when they hear such a phrase, their kneejerk reaction tells them this must be about race. I assure you, it’s not.

When the North invaded the South during the 1860s, it was to deny the southern states the ultimate expression of their sovereignty – the ability to withdraw from a union they had voluntarily joined.

I am in California. We need more fruits and vegetables like we need another hole in our heads.

And by suggesting that the South would be a third world nation if their rebellion succeeded is not to imply that they do not or did not have anything of value. Many third world nations are awash in natural resources. ;)

Lived for several years in the South. Love everything about it other than the humidity, the bugs, and the revisionist / alternative historians.

For your benefit, I repost my Post #57.

Yes, and by force of arms our rebellion became a revolution.
But we did not go to war against England to preserve Conservative values, family values, nor Christian values, or (British) patriotism; and I would scoff at anyone who claims we did; we fought to be free from being ruled ineffectually and for the benefit of others from several thousand miles away.

The Confederacy had neither legal legitimacy, or the legitimacy that comes from prevailing through force of arms.

Neither do I see them as the defenders of Conservatism, family values, Christianity or patriotism. They defended States Rights, specifically the “right” to keep people as slaves.

Well, you said they’d be 3rd world. I gave examples why they wouldnt, so could you give examples why they would? What do you think would happen to the Midwest if we left?

Sure they had legal legitimacy. Everyone who wins has legal legitimacy. They didn’t win, so now they are not legit.

So going to war to force civil change is conservative? Granting citizenship to only the slaves in conquered areas is family values? Burning a town and killing women and children is Christian? Telling individual states they must abide by the Federal Government is patriotism?

Natural resources is hardly a reason why they wouldn't, as many third world nations are awash in natural resources.

I think they would have devolved to a third world nation if successful in removing themselves from the USA because of slave revolts, slavery, reduced trade, regional wars, corruption, etc. Bill Clinton ran Arkansas like a banana republic even as part of the USA; one can only imagine if it were a sovereign state! It would look like Red Square China, but with Clinton's stupid face staring back at you from every corner.

Going to war when your troops are fired upon is conservative.

Ending slavery is family values.

Making war is necessary, even for Christians. If you do not have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.

Keeping the United States United is patriotic, if you are American and patriotic towards America. Lee was a patriot, of course, but he was a Virginia patriot, as an American, he was “rebel scum”.

How are banks, software, and manufacturing a “natural resource?” If there were 2 countries, you would have been led by Mass, NY, and Mi socialist ideology.

In the late 1800’s, NYC and Chicago were full of Eastern European Socialists and Anarchists. Without the south, they would have had more influence with the Electoral College. Then you have the northern plains commie farmers of Mi, Ia, Il who wanted to run socialist populists for national government.

Going to war when your troops are fired upon is not “conservative.” It is a natural reaction. Were the Soviets conservative? Were the Spartans? Were the French and British? Were the Muslims during the Crusades?

How do you say making war is Christian when I asked about Sherman’s scorched earth?

Should you be patriotic to someone who doesnt want you?

All Im saying is, I can bring up four points for the south, then you can bring up four for the north, then I can bring up four for the south...that doesnt prove the overall worth of anything.

No more than 2-300.

Conservative means to conserve/preserve what was, as a general philosophy.

The Union was trying to preserve the Union by keeping things the way they were. Ft. Sumter was, is, and hopefully always will be U.S. territory, and it is the conservative position to say it should stay that way.

A short brutal war is better than a long protracted more gentle war. Sherman's actions ended the war sooner than it would have been otherwise. Making war is a necessity for Christians, I never said that “making war is Christian”; but nice attempt at putting words in my mouth.

We wanted, and continue to want the South. It was they who didn't want to live up to the “freely entered” contract of the U.S. Constitution. As I said from the beginning, all legally binding contracts are freely entered into, but that does not imply that they can be unilaterally withdrawn from by the rules that the one party invents on the spot.

America is more than just a geography, a population, a government, or a Constitution; it is so much more than that, it is an ideal a vision a principle. I have no problems at all being a patriotic American.... what is your problem?

There was no legislative threat to take away their “peculiar institution” on the eve of their declarations of secession.

There was a big election, and the guy they didn't like won. So they decided they didn't like the rules of the game anymore and wanted to CHANGE THE RULES.

Changing the rules is revolutionary, not conservative.

The Confederates were attempted revolutionaries, not conservatives.

Moreover this entire “Conservative/Family values/ Christian/ Patriot” drivel is a red herring. Most terms as understood today are hardly even applicable except as anachronism.

The Confederacy was revolutionary, not conservative.

Slavery is not a family value, it demeans interpersonal relationships to one of ownership, and family bonds are broken to serve economic desires.

The South was not more Christian than the North, nor was their cause one that was inherently more Christian.

And the Confederacy were not patriots, but rebels. Their patriotism was to their home State, not to the United States.

History has a knack for repetition. I once shared your sentiments, but no more. You are living an illusion. The corruption in DC is beyond repair. Good government is founded on private property, sound money, low taxes, equal justice before the law, secure borders and an armed and vigilant neutrality. The American empire is now in the hands of corrupt politicians, tyrannical judges, and global statists. WE have a vast oppressive bureaucracy in the form of welfare and affirmative action programs that squander our wealth and incite racial strife. I have had enough and those in power will not convert.
