I didn’t see it, although the path it took put it over my house. Supposedly it was quiet and blocked the sky. And the BG range is south of two mountain ranges that would block the flares unless they were really bright, high altitude flares. The BG range is south of Interstate 8, which is two mountain ranges south of Phx. Who knows what it was, but flares don’t travel in a straight line for hours. Impossible with the wind for flares to stayed lined up.

Maybe one of the last times that the RAG was actually a good newspaper. Their demise started after this.

My cousin saw it at Cordes Junction, which is at least a hundred miles north of the Goldwater Range. He said it blocked out the starlight in between the lights and was larger and faster and quieter than any aircaft he had ever seen before. He was a professor of engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and now works for Boeing, so that is saying something.

I remember when this happened. I saw it talked about on the morning shows and the mayor of Phoenix said “You won’t hear anymore about this...” and sure enough, the story went away. Curious.

I lived in North Pinal County at the time and was the electronics maintenance chief at BMG B&GR. These lights had nothing to do with the range. They were strange at the least. Neither Luke or DM was conducting anything and if it were canistors I would expect a few to turn up in folks yards. Never happened.

This looks just like what I saw on 2/24/2009 at 7:00 PM. I reported it to MUFON that nite. Here is the report I made:
"I was driving from Stephenville with my daughter, on US 377 going towards Dublin when we both saw it at the same time. Directly ahead and a little to our left we saw a line of lights, evenly spaced, but not very bright, heading North. What struck us most was the size of it. There are very few planes flying in our rural area, but this would have been vastly larger than even a commercial plane & much, much lower. It looked to be directly over Dublin and the lights were on for several seconds, then went off, on once more for several seconds, then off again. We never saw them afterwards, and in what daylight there was left we were unable to see the body of any aircraft, only the huge string of lights, but from the first pulse to the second one it was apparent that whatever it is was making a slow, stationary turn towards the West." end of report
When we 1st saw this thing, we both exclaimed something like "Oh, my God, what is THAT!" So it was evident we both were seeing the same thing at the same time. What is striking to me about the photo here is that what I saw was even "half lighted"as this appears to be. The right side of the object had lights but the left did not. There was still plenty of daylight left, but when the lights were on and when they went off, there was NO OBJECT VISIBLE for them to be attached to!
On my report I said it looked to be rotating to the West, but it should say East, as it appeared to be turning towards us. Then it was just gone. The light shown to the far left on the picture above was not visible to us on our siting.
