ORLANDO--There are new doubts that SeaWorld will let the whale that killed a trainer perform again. These concerns come to light as the theme park works with Dawn Brancheau's family to seal surveillance video of the incident and tries to cope with outside pressures demanding the whales be released.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, better known as PETA, flew a banner over the park Tuesday with the message: "Let the whales and dolphins out of prison."
We have just experienced yet another ...

Remember guys....”Free Willie” is not an invitation to expose your male appendage.
But I think your analogy is wrong in that dogs are completely domesticated animals. There’s not really a “wild” to release them to. This whale was captured, assuming that information is correct.
The other whales that were bred in captivity I agree would probably not be able to assimilate in the open ocean and would likely either die or be killed by other whales.
Then it would 'play' with swimmers. And by 'play' I mean 'kill.'
Apparently he “got his freak on” quite a bit in that little tank.
I prefer Zoo's to animal shows, and I think animals in Zoo's are performing a valid service as an “ambassador” of their species. Tigers being driven extinct doesn't resonate so much if you have never seen an actual tiger.
As cities expand and the wild retreats, Zoos have also served as a valuable repository of genetic diversity for reintroducing species into the wild, studying their behavior, etc.
A couple months ago I was watching a TV show that said there have been no documented human deaths from wild killer whales. One of the cameramen went in the water with several of them while they were hunting for food. I think there is a strong chance this whale would kill humans if released in the wild. To me the obvious answer is to put it down. But that would never, of course, ever happen. The black and white patterns make them look like holstein cows and they are probably just as yummy. But since you can’t eat them or otherwise hurt them the best answer might be to just keep it penned up.
Yep, its been trained to “play” with people. It would find the first person, play with that person (as in drown), do its tricks and then expect a treat. (or whatever they used)
Killer whales live in pods and hunt together. This whale has no pod and would most likely die if released.
