...This has never been a children's story. There's even a little sadism embedded in Carroll's fantasy. It reminds me of uncles who tickle their nieces until they scream...

And in terms of movies, yes the acting, music, lyrics, plot, characters, all forged to make The Wizard of Oz the classic that it is and due the preeminent role it has in film history. It is a beautifully done film with a lot of timeless appeal and value. I am only saying that I doubt this Alice in Wonderland film will be of that magnitude despite the extraordinary technology. And besides, I find Disney's original, animated rendition of the story quite worthwhile and interesting.
Holy crap, that second picture is some nightmare fuel!
And have you seen the photos?? I have and the drawings they are available to be seen. Fact is they look like Disney still fairyies from something such as Fantasia.
Like it or not, even in 19th century England (particularly away from the cities) peoples views about nudity were not nearly so strict as ours are today.
Dodgson could not have existed today as he did then. No doubt you are embarassed by Rubens, Michaelangleo, or any of the great works of art that adorned every major civilization from Egypt through the modern day
It’s a mix of live action and stop motion animation. He is mostly known for stop motion animated shorts. He’s made several feature length films and this is one of them.
Since you have not read them then your opinion is of no value. You have read neither The Oz series nor the duet of Alice. Have you read anything by C.S. Lewis or John Bunyan or anything challenging at all?
Do you believe adult sex with kids is sinful and criminal?
I know even a nude one..
There’s no evidence Carroll ever did that. Alice Lidell lived to a ripe old age and never said anything like that as far I as know.
I have Pilgrim’s Progress right next to my bed, but haven’t read it.
Are you serious? You’re going to make a comparison between NARNIA and Wonderland? I don’t think the two are worth comparing. Narnia is on a level of its own...as is Lord of the Rings. There’s a huge difference between BIBLICAL allegory and political satire with some hallucinogenic insight sprinkled in.
As has been mentioned on this thread, Carroll’s photographs weren’t all that untoward for the time. They regarded Adultery as a much more serious sin than what would now be regarded as questionable photos of underage kids. The opposite from what it is now.
Well we will have to disagree, but if you want to keep defending the perv be my guest..
I just read this thread and, frankly, you seem to be overreacting and a little, what’s the word? Snotty.
Read (or listen) for yourself:

I hadn’t read it until I did so as an adult and was aware of the pervy allegations, but even so, I think kids will only follow the literal plot.
I'm sure these same "scholars" also hold Nietzsche in higher regard than the Bible. At least Lewis communicated messages of transcendent worth and eternal significance.
If you haven’t read a book how in the world can you say whether a comparison should be made????
Appparently you read very little
His portrayal of Willy Wonka can't hold candle to Gene Wilder's. And I know that Burton's film is "closer" to the book.
Ed Wood, on the other hand, remains the finest collaboration between Depp and Burton.
Tell you what when you want to make silly statements about books that YOU have not read I will make similar comments to you to
