IG investigation and you shred files. What do you suppose would prompt someone to do that?

Apparently I’m a little behind the times, or I’m having a brainfart of some magnitude... but since when does NOAA do fisheries enforcement? What happened to the NMFS?

It hasn’t always been that way, has it? Did that change, say... in the last 20 years or so?

I wrote a book about humpback whales here on Maui over twenty years ago and had been doing the whale watches and research. All the Marine Fisheries agents here were personal friends of mine and even dedicated one of my books to them. They were working for NOAA at that time and that was 1982/83.

One would think that the IG office is also imcompetent.

Like the "Miranda Rights," shouldn't offices about to be investigated automatically be advised when they are the target of an investigation "not to destroy or remove files for any reason" until the investigation is over?

"The shredding was planned for a year" sounds both lame and childish, and should trip BS meters all over the place.

I just found one of the old books one of the NMFS guys gave me “ Whales, Dolphins, and Porpoises of the Eastern North Pacific and Adjacent Arctic Waters”. It also says “NOAA Technical Report NMFS Circular 444” Then at the bottom of the cover is says IU.S. DEPT. of Commerce. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. National Marine Fisheries Service. I guess they are all together in the commerce dept. Aloha

Since NASA breeds a hysterical nutcase who travels worldwide hysterically promoting global warming.

There is something inherently evil and disturbing about unbridled, uncontrolled government, answerable only to itself and goaded on by equally neurotic, very small but very loud special interest groups.

And our liberties and our taxdollars is their food of choice.

Yah, OK. I knew they were both in the Commerce department, but I guess I’d wrongly assumed that they were different agencies, and not one within the other. Oh well. Ya learn sumpthin’ every day, huh?

In a former life, like back in the 80’s, I used to work with NMFS agents, when I was a Coastie, doing boardings on lots of various fishing vessels in the Bering and the Gulf of AK.

Had lots of good conversations with the NMFS guys on the messdeck, regarding fisheries biology... potential overfishing and whatnot. Some good guys, those NMFS guys.

I hate to burst your bubble but since the early 70s, the creation and the perversion of the EPA, and ESA, the California Coastal Commission, all the friendly federal and state service agencies have done the Jekyll-Hyde thing. Even the Corps of Engineers has been swallowed up by the Green Gestapo.

When I was a child, and later in high school, I learned biology, geology, astronomy, navigation with a generation of public servants who were dedicated, knowledgeable and helpful. Then they were transformed, in less than a generation into enforcers.

Since the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is an endless supply of bureaucrats, obviously we have not seen the end of it.
