Ok, so I come home from wallie world today to find my census hanging on my door. I opened it knowing what I would find and answered only How many people were living or staying in this house, apartment, or mobile home on April 1, 2010?
The rest I just said many bad words to. Got flustered and decided I'd wait till the last minute to send it back. Knowing full well, that someone working for the census is probably going to come back. Probably not knowing anything about the constitution. So I want to be ready. Understanding that this person is just trying to do a job and get paid. So now that I've gotten my anger out and I'm calmer, I would like some feedback please.
By the way, in case you haven't received yours, here are the questions, minus the first one.
2. Were there any additional people staying here April 1, 2010 that you did not include in Question 1?
3. Is this house, apartment, or mobile home - x all that apply. -Children, such as newborn babies or foster children. -Relatives, such as adult children, cousins, or in-laws -Non relatives, such as roommates or live-in baby sitters -People staying here temporarily -No additional people
4. Is this house, apartment, or mobile home, x one box or all that apply. -Owned by you or someone in this household with a mortgage or loan? Include home equity loans. -Owned by you or someone in this houshold free and clear (without a mortgage or loan)? - Rented? - Occupied without payment of rent?
4. What is your telephone number? We may call if we don't understand an answer.
5. Please provide information for each person living here. Start with a person living here who owns or rents this house, apartment, or mobile home. If the owner or renter lives somewhere else, start with any adult lving h ere. This will be Person 1. What is Person 1's name?
6. What is Person 1's sex?
7. What is Person 1's age and what is Person 1's date of birth?
8. Is Person 1 of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin?
9. What is Person 1's race?
10. Does Person 1 sometimes live or stay somewhere else? If more people were counted in Question1, continue with Person 2. You have to answer all the questions for each person living with you.
The Apostolics living in the area are going to be really happy about this one. My dad-in-laws neighbor has 23 kids.
But I suppose the 'Information not available' answer would satisfactorily avoid conflict. I do, however, recall a ruling that your race is basically whatever you declare it to be.
It is the other form that comes with the census that has the intrusive questions. The American Community Survey.
I can understand the need for counting people and knowing this stuff but why do we have to have our names and social security numbers attached?
Over 200 laptops were stolen from the census bureau with people’s info on them.
I should trust a temporary worker with this information?
$5000 fine for not answering the ACS form.
I think every one should put down african-american since every single anthropology text book at every university in america sais that we all come from africa
Due to a job change, I am living in another state apart form my family, although my legal residence is still my original state because I own a home there, where my family lives. My wife and I just talked about it. When she gets it, she will put the number of people in my family, including me. No other questions will be answered. If they come to the door, they are to call me from some location that is not my front porch where I will explain the US Cinstitution to them and again give them the number of people living in my house.
I guess we need an opinion from the constitutional lawyer. Billybob, care to weigh in?
That’s what I was thinking. In the 2000 Census, I only answered how many people were living in the home. Never heard a thing from anyone. But, it would be nice to hear straight from a Constitutional lawyer.
True, their treats are expensive, dog food now is another story, 15 lb bag last about a month- 5 weeks..we are talking one 14 lb skinny, and one 25 lb tubby.
I may make a copy of the forms with all the bar coding "smeared" and sending that in as well as the origninal form, but with vastly different answers on each form.
I don't know...I'll have to see how I feel at the time.
I’m in the same situation. For my safety, I will not answer the census. Too many crazies out there and no police protection (whatever that is)
LOL That’s exactly what I say!
They had race and age and address and whether you own the house and what your occupation was on all the old census forms dating back to the 1700s. I appreciate having that information available when I am doing research. But they went too far when they asked whether we have a mortgage, and the date of birth. I left those blank.
The subject was the new American Community Survey (ACS) by the Census Bureau --- AND --- the current US Census. It was hard to tell exactly what was being discussed, but I think "Information Not Available" could apply to almost any situation. If the information is not directly in front of you at the exact time that you are filling out the form, then the information is "Not Available".
Sure, the goverment might tell you that your information will be private and confidential, but can that be guaranteed? Nope.
At one point, it was said that Obama wanted to create his own shadow army of “volunteers.” I believe that the census will be used to conscript us into service. Might seem like a silly notion, but this government can’t be trusted.
I don’t see why anyone would object to the race question.
There is some reason to think that it is to our advantage to know how many black, hispanic, etc., people are in our country.
I think it also to our advantage for the government o know how many own, how many are still paying mortgage payments and how many rent.
Beyond that, I would just put NA or skip.
It’s the purpose of the census that should dictate the questions...not the whims of congress.
