Feb. 25, 2010 "Growing Pains'" Andrew Koenig Found Dead Father Walter Koenig Holds Emotional Press Conference, Says Son Took His Own Life (CBS/ AP) Vancouver police said Thursday evening that missing "Growing Pains" actor Andrew Koenig's body was discovered.
Koenig's father, of Walter Koenig, who played Chekov in the original "Star Trek" said during a press conference that his son took his own life.
Koenig, 41, was visiting friends in Vancouver when he went missing more than a week ago.
The Venice, California, native had a recurring role on the 1980s sitcom as Boner, a pal of star Kirk Cameron's character, Mike.
"What a great guy and a good human being," his father said. "He was obviously in a lot of pain."
Koenig implored others who were depressed to seek help.
"If you learn anything from this there are people out there who really care, you may not think so, and it may ultimately not be enough, but there are people who really care," Koenig said. "Before you make that final decision, check it out again and talk to somebody."

Sad. Prayers for the family....
Wow, how pitiful to remember all of that. I loved that show!! It's amazing how much TV didn't suck back in the old days. :)
How courageous for Koenig to speak through his pain. I sure hope that some who may have thought killing themselves is the answer will remember his words.
I know what you mean...I actually thought I saw it in both pictures. Sad news.
Prayers to the Koenig family on their loss.
I never watched the show. But, here’s the clip from the show where his character joins the Marines:

Yep, that’s the episode...thanks for the links, guys. That last scene was pretty poignant, given what has happened. It showed Koenig’s talent as an actor, for sure.
Sad.
Anyway, I thought that was a funny episode, and Koenig played it well.
You have my deepest sympathy. That has got to be very hard.
Bless you and your family....
GenX ping!
Thanks for the pic post. Brings the sadness to a human level- a face!
My prayers are with you.
He played a pretty decent Joker in Batman: Dead End too...JFK
My sister, as well.
Roland Buck’s book ANGELS ON ASSIGNMENT may or may not be of value to you. It was to me. Not per se on the topic. Mostly about angelic visitations to him and his visit to The Father’s Throne room.
However, he touches on an assumption or two that he found, as an Assembly of God Pastor, turned out not to be true.
You can read it free online here:

I listened to him speak when he was in the midst of his experiences. He was incredibly authentic. Kind of the personality of a cross between Walter Brennen and Walter Cronkite. Very matter of fact and nonplussed.
He was of the Buck knives family of Bucks.
