LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb. 21 (UPI) -- A truckload of confiscated marijuana that could be worth more than $1 million disappeared somewhere between Memphis and Louisville, Ky., sources say.

The more than 1,700 pounds of pot went missing during a controlled drug delivery going from Memphis to Louisville, The Memphis Commercial-Appeal reported Sunday.

A Memphis Police Department travel memo obtained by the newspaper said the drugs -- confiscated from a semi Feb. 10 -- were escorted to Louisville by Memphis police and Shelby County sheriff's deputies.

Sources said the officers saw several vehicles pull up to the tractor-trailer parked in Louisville, leave, come back, then leave again.

When they checked the contents of the truck it was empty, the sources said.

IOW, the officers just stood there and watched as the semi was looted of its cannabis, and looked only when it was ... gone?

Something doesn't add up here.

confiscated marijuana that could be worth more than $1 million disappeared . . . The more than 1,700 pounds of pot

That works out to under $40 an ounce. Not much more than when I was in the market for it when Nixon was president. I suspect however if the government hadn't been holding this stash and if the government had seized it from a dealer, the media would report it was worth $10 to $20 million. Maybe more.
