There exists the possibility that every person who ever ran for a national government office, be they Senator, Representative, or President, were all intrinsically and incurably evil since childhood. The greater probability, however, is that they started out in life as fairly ordinary people. People who, once they got to D.C. and became part of The Machine, it picked away at their charity, nibbled at the edges of their decency, and eventually completely consumed their integrity.
This would explain why they all seem to be reprobate, lying, scheming trash who care little if anything for those whom they were sent to represent, and care only about lining their own pockets to ensure getting re-elected. When ambition becomes avarice, it makes any number of lies, evasions, and justifications seem honorable. It also stands on its head the very process it would otherwise have chosen to serve.
Were this phenomenon of the Mysteriously Transforming Humans the sole province of the Beltway Banditry, our plight would be so much less grave. The truth is that this propensity for power to corrupt transcends the hallowed halls of Congress and the White House. It pervades Hollywoods hoi palloi, academias acolytes and even televisions talking-heads.
Enter Glenn Beck. As he assumed the position before the cameras center stage on Fox, fresh from other entertainment-oriented pursuits, it seemed his was a benevolent mission to uplift the downtrodden, shine light into corners that loved darkness, and speak truth to the powers that putrefy all which they touch within our governmental institutions.
Right from the start he was lucid if loony, biting with wit and sarcasm, brilliant at connecting dots and ferreting out hoodlums, and humble when and where he himself became a part of the commentary. It was refreshing, informative, and truly revolutionary in the sense that nobody was doing what he was doing. He was the new Paul Reveres church steeple, shining like a klieg light with the message Three if by Government!. (credits to the Freeper who came up with this tagline)
Then a terrible thing happened. His ratings went through the roof. Millions upon millions of people started watching him each night, eager for his next exposé laden performance, and hanging upon his every winsome word. No doubt there were accolades from his co-workers and media bosses. There were most assuredly many who told him how great he was. And, it seems, he started believing them.
He went from assailing those whose vile goal it was to overturn our Constitution and do harm to our glorious National Heritage, to referring in the same breath and with the same disdain to both the Truthers who believe the U.S. Government was complicit in 9/11, and the good people here in America who wonder why our President refuses to produce his birth certificate. Birthers, he now calls us--and its meant as an insult.
He went from warning us about the politicians who would tell us what to think and whom to believe, to setting himself up as an authority telling us who we should and should not vote for. Deb Medina? NO! George Washington? YES! Sarah Palin? (Hell let us know once he makes up his mind.)
The once great and finely focused corruption-seeking missile has devolved into a self-promoting pundit who seems now to care more about what he cares about (replete with his own self-servingly tortured rationalizations) than that which is best for us, and for America.
Nobody is perfect. I cannot sit here and tell you that, were I in his shoes, the same fate would not befall me. I can, however, tell you what a huge disappointment it is when we find out that one of our heroes is in truth just another jerk. I was in awe of Glenn when he was our knight in flabby cheeks. Now Im just sad. America is losing one its few truly brilliant beacons, and a damn shame it is.
;-/
No one ever expected airplanes to be used for missiles, but they were.
And no one ever, EVER thought we'd be governed by enemies of the nation.
It's one thing to have intelligence and propose what might happen if .. but to be suddenly made aware that the camel is not only in the tent, but we actually believe he's not.
That's nuckin' futz !!!
Glenn is growing, as ALL OF US CHILDREN OF GOD are supposed to.
Anyone who ever thought Beck was a shill for the Republican Party is out of their minds. I’m honestly confused as to where he stands since he is all over the place.
Isn’t that the truth...
I just can’t help but believe that if there is anything to this birther thing, the Clinton machine would have jumped onto it long before the primaries. Unless, Soros bought them off somehow.
Regardless of the merits, it is not a winning issue because it’s already in same category with ‘truthers.’
Beck is intolerable. The whole chalkboard gimmick is silly ...
he's fickle...indecisive...wishywashy...he won't give a straight answer and if I hear one more of his breathless..."if I could only tell you"...something that somebody important told him.....or other buffoonery...well, once more would be too much....
this anti Repulican crap among the conservative media mouthpieces is really peculiar..
it was the Pubs that saved America during the Clintoon years, and it'll be the Pubs that save America now....
Bush was a globalist...we all knew that...he was far too spendy...but I don't blame him nor most of the pubs for the finacial crap...that sits in the lap of the Dim party completely...from Fannie and Freddie debacle to the cheap loans to people with no money...etc etc...
sure I would love all my Pubs to be strict conservatives but it ain't gonna happen....
time for choosing Beck...time to take sides....right now you're sitting in the catbird seat acting like a know it all...
if the pubs don't score huge gains come Nov...I blame Beck and his quiviling...his constant berating of Pubs...
ATTACK THE DIMS BECK....ATTACK THE TRUE ENEMY....
LOL — Great line!!!
Its not that he doesn’t believe it; its that he is openly derisive of people who have honest doubts. If those doubts stem from mere venal prejudice, they deserve to be derided; if they stem from serious reflection on constitutional principles, combined with a love of country, I see no reason why a person of Beck’s exalted station should look down on such persons with superior distain. Was it not Jesus who warned us not to call each other fools, even though, from his point of view, we all are, to one degree or another?
That's a big part of it, too. They won this battle. We need to suck it up and move on.
Let's come up with a new way to win the bigger war. Trading immunity for the usurper in exchange for actually seeing his papers and enacting laws preventing this situation in the future works for me. YMMV.
“Birtherism” is just about ONE MAN.
Obama has a limited time in office.
We are fighting for IDEALS here.
Marxism didn’t die with Marx.
Big government and anti-constitutional thinking won’t be discredited even if (and it’s not likely) Obama isn’t a citizen and does step down. There are still plenty of Marxists left in the Congress, and more on the way, unless the idea is defeated.
Obama does not matter.
He does not matter.
By acting as though he is all-powerful, you give him way too much credit!
He’s an incompetent junior senator from Illinois. Does he belong in the White House? No way! But the best way to take away his power is to give him a huge Conservative congress that will override his vetoes.
I say this looking forward to November 2, 2010. That matters.
Beck is a fool if he doesn’t know Obama is ineligible to be president. I won’t waste my time on his crap anymore.
He is just as ridiculous as Oreilly anymore.
Oh, relax about it.
Beck, like Rush and all their ilk, are more entertainment than they are newsmen. He has said so himself. If there is no controversy, there is no audience.
We all need to quit getting riled when people express ideas and opinions that don’t agree with ours. It’s OK to debate.
Folks who disagree with me aren’t necessarily evil — sometimes they’re just wrong. And, at least for now, that’s still allowed in our wonderful land.
Focus on the big issues and choose to ally with others of like mind to take our country back.
I like it. And it has worked for millions of teachers, professors and lecturers for a very, very, very long time.
Excellent vanity.
Short version: Glenn got too big for his britches.
BDS will have to start standing for Beck Derangement Syndrome. He’s a TV personality, not a politician, yet he has done much to invigorate and inform the conservative movement. I like Beck, and these anti-Beck vanity threads are getting to be ridiculous.
I ate a donut this morning after I shaved and showered. I might have franks and beans for dinner. I might even watch some of the Olympics.
Attack the Dems Mark, Attack the Dems Bill Bennett
Glenn Beck is Genn Beck and I don’t expect anything else from him.
He has already said he does NOT support a third party. So he has chosen, that does not mean you cannot criticize your own party.
We have an obligation to call our side on something when they are wrong.
Respectfully disagree. There are visual people, and there are verbal people. Using the chalkboard along with his verbiage helps both understand.
Thou shalt not worship graven images
