I can't imagine how devastating it must be to spend a significant portion of your life dedicated to training for an event that turns out badly in the end (or beginning...)

Must be really tough.

When I was in my very first high school ski race I jumped out of the starting gate 5 seconds early. I stopped right away and asked for a do-over...and they let me!
For the Olympics, I sure her nerves were all over the place.

What these morons (the writer, not the athlete) fail to notice is this:

Lindsey Vonn did well on the course by driving hard at the top of the course. So Marion Rolland, knowing what she had to beat, probably wanted to do the same. Or she just attacks the top of the course as part of her normal racing routine.

And you only get ONE chance to launch yourself, so if you want to go hard at the top, you launch yourself HARD out of the gate. And you know what? A hard kick-start plus oddball snow can lead to problems as Ms. Rolland experienced.

Marion Rolland had an embarrassing afternoon, but it is only an "Epic Fail" in the eyes of the ignorant.
