Hes a family man who lives apart from his family, a naturally amiable fellow who secretly suspects conspiracies, a volatile character who often seems on the thin edge between rage and raucous laughter.
Its a character Mel Gibson has played perfectly since his earliest movie stardom.
But was there a point when it began to play him? When Mad Max started becoming Mad Mel?

great acting (GF said I look just like Mel)
excellent cinematography
simple but understandable plot with no twists ( unlike Borne that has a plot like a train wreck)
the usual contextual graphic violence that is to be expected from hollywood these days
adequate suspense but I knew what was going to happen every time
.
An awesome obvious political stab at some of my least favorite US senators as villans (kerry/pelosi) made it worth the price of admission
I heard it was stab at Northrope Grumann
Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t the Kerry-like politician in the movie have an R, beside his name denoting Republican affiliation?
Lurch is so obviously portrayed as a main character dead ringer rotten senator and Pelosi is seen in a bit part in a photo in another villans trophy case and gets the sarcastic comment from “Mad Mel”....”nice company you keep”
Da Jooooooooooos!!!!!!
???
If so I didn’t notice but it got a few chuckles from others in the audience when I rudely interjected a quiet “in fashion reminiscent of ghengis kahn” at the perfect time between lurches lines
I saw the movie and I would give it a three on a scale of one to five. Not a great movie like “Hurt Locker” but a good movie worth seeing.
I would agree with that rating
Sure did.......and I pointed that out to my lady friend in attendance with me.
This drivel is getting old, and entirely unoriginal. Most of the beings that populate Hollywood are several bubbles off plumb at a minimum; some are amusingly so while others are completely off the scale in terms of raging insanity. Mel’s not the worst of the lot, despite the anti-Semitic ravings while hammered on booze. At least he apologized, while the Penns, Robbins’s and other trash of their ilk believe they’re actually helping things with their active, sober anti-Semitism disguised as liberalism.
Film critics, like moviemakers, are largely bereft of originality and creativity, which is why “reviews” like this keep getting replicated even though once around takes away all the punch for all time.
By the way, the movie is terrific and deserves a couple of screenings to appreciate it all.
—sure did-went to it since my wife is somewhat of a Gibson fan—thought it stunk overall—
Like Taken, I will try to get my daughters to watch it.
I just saw it this morning and I got a little choked up at the end.
Good movie....two thumbs up.
Mad max on the other hand is an outstanding B movie...
Best watched with the original aussie soundtrack...
Road warrior was the perfect follow on...
and thunderdome stunk in ice but did have a couple good parts...
Cant win em all...
I remember Gibson in an interview when The Passion came out. He mentioned that you do not make a movie about the Passion and not get some of it handed to you.
The demons have been after that guy for some time. I heard a brief trailer of the movie and he even had lines that refereed to the passion.
I think it was, "You are either the person hammering in the nails or the one getting the nails hammered into you.
I said to my wife “a Republican from Mass.that’s rich” Oops!

That's what I kept thinking when I read the books. I wondered often if Ludlum had changed his mind where the story was going each morning when we woke.
I saw it. Great as pure entertainment, but I’m not seeing a friendly political vibe at all.
The villain Senator was a Repub, who made tough_on-defense arguments to the media. And to be honest I didn’t get a Kerry comparison until you suggested one. The other villians are all private sector and CIA/defense department-oriented Feds. Evil CEOs and a lefty conspiracy about defense contractors don’t make for a conservative message, IMO.
He also had photos of himself with Dubya. I think the point was to show the guy had very powerful friends.
Heh. So I wasn’t imagining it. Adding the anti-American BBC as as one of the producers of the movie, I knew something wasn’t right.
Thank you for that info. I won’t be seeing this dog.
