Anyone have experience with concealed carry coats with the built-in ambidextrous pistol pockets?

Comfort? Print? Practicality?

e.g., http://www.freerepublic.com

Looking for options in addition to waist holsters and shoulder holsters.

Thanks for the advice

SW 442 in a pants pocket.

Its light, It kicks like hell, and the long double action trigger sucks, but it will keep ya from shooting yer balls off when you draw it.

There is always a trade off on concealabilty.

I like the little PA 64 too with a SOB holster too

My mistake. You asked about coats.

You can conceal anything in winter. It just aint a problem.

I suppose access is the biggest problem in winter.

My favorite is a 5 or 6 inch belly band.
Most will handle 2 pistols and 2 magazines.
The cost is only about 25 to 35 dollars.
They are great under a short sleeve shirt in hot weather.

The weapon you choose to carry should be the foremost determinant in your choice of how to carry it IMO. It’s size, action, and design will dictate what kind of coat or concealment method is or is not appropriate. personally, I like a leather jacket with a pocket large enough to hold my hand wrapped around a hammerless S&W 340 M&P. This is much faster than having to reach inside your coat and it gives you the element of surprise even if someone already has a weapon directed at you.

This is a vanity that I can assuredly say, “No I do not have even a cell of experience.” :-D. I wish I did though.

It’s not a good idea. It’s just too easy for you to take your coat off and leave your gun unattended. At least with the shoulder holster, which is a superior method of carry anyway, you are concealed when you have your coat on... which by the way is the case when you have the gun in the coat pocket. If you take the coat off (and you ARE going to take it off), what are you going to do with the gun if it’s in the coat?

I think you will find them all practical and comfortable in winter with no print.

I’ve got a couple of 5.11 Tactical jackets, and like them. I can carry a small auto comfortably in the inside pocket, without printing through.

Well, it's not a coat, but it's conceal carry that certainly looks comfortable and practical

My favorite CCW coat was a short leather coat with large zippered side pockets. In cold weather, it's natural to walk around with your hands in your coat pocket. In my case, walking to my car at night, my right hand would be around my .38 snubbie. When I was inside, I could zipper the pocket to prevent inadvertent glimpses of its contents.

The fastest draw is already having it in your hand.

I don’t like carrying pistols in coats, jackets or vests. They flop around too much unless the jacket is cinched tight, which makes drawing a problem. (This does not apply to micro backup guns, which can be dropped in any pocket.)

Better to get a CCW belt holster, IWP or a flat/high pancake style if you want it outside the belt and plan to wear coats/shirts that will conceal it.

Mis dos centavos....

The biggest problem I see with your coat system is “positive retention”

That said, I think it is a fine system in winter.

I always got hands in pockets in winter to retain the beasty.
That said, I dumped a 1911 on the pavement getting out of the truck using a similar arangement.

No experience with them here. I don’t wear a lot of jackets in Florida. Therefore, I’m limited to an inside the pants pancake holster.

I would look at adjusting yoir weapon choice rather than wearing a goofy jacket.

Coronado Leather Co.

They are a short length leather jacket. Carry on either side. Inside holsters (pockets) have elastic straps to keep gun secure. Comes in black or brown. Also make a vest in black or brown. Bit pricey. I paid $450 for mine. Saw it advertised in Guns & Ammo and the monthly NRA mag. Great looking jacket and impossible to tell if you’re carrying.
