“You are not a man until you’ve pulled a tooth with a pair of pliers.” ...Phil Harris
With all his health issues I am not surprised. I will bet that the cause of this death is directly linked to that nasty clot he had in his lungs a couple of years ago.
What a character. I know he will be missed by many.
Thanks, Phil, for the entertainment & education. And the crab!
Ditto.
Farewell Captain Phil! You made your mark on this earth and it is a deep wide and indelible mark indeed!
.
Much too young.
RIP skipper you sleep with crabs now
His smoking and apparent lack of fitness made this outcome pretty obvious.
Too bad.
But, I guess he lived the way he wanted.
RIP Captain Phil - smooth waters are now ahead and the traps are always full...
Wow...a tough,gutsy,hard-working guy with some really nice tattoos..... RIP.
Sleep ye well, Phil.
RIP Captain! Your watch is over and your sons and shipmates have relieved you, sir! Well done!
A hard working, no nonsense, straight up, salt of the earth (sea in this case), self reliant man. A real American in every sense of the word.
I quit smoking after watching what he went through with those blood clots and whatnot last season. I’d imagine that I wasn’t alone in being freaked out by what he went through with smoking. I was as heavy a smoker as he was, and never thought I could quit. I’ve tried all the gimmicks, nicotine gum, smokeless cigs, nicotine patches, zyban, and even nicotine inhalers (Nicotrol) and simply couldn’t quit. I’d always taper down, and get it down to a few cigs or even one cig a day......but eventually the habit came back, slowly and surely. I realized the only way to quit was to go cold-turkey. I concluded every single cig you have, even while quitting simply continues to reinforce the habit. I was given a new prescription, from my doc this time, for my yearly attempt a quitting. He prescribed Chantix and I’ve read and heard almost all of the horror stories. I have not had any problems whatsoever with it. I feel that Chantix saved my life, or at least will let me extend my life by 10 years or so. It seemed to quiet that almost hunger-like craving I used to get for a cig after not having one for a while. Your mileage may vary, but it really helped me, and its been nearly a year now and my urges to smoke are virtually non-existent.
RIP Captain.
I liked him in “Jungle Book”.
Prayers for his sons, the rest of his family, and friends.
