Robbie Jenkins, and her boyfriend, Tremayne Spillman, both entered guilty pleads to felony negligent child abuse, inflicting serious injury and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Spillman also plead to felony larceny.

The couple told lawmen they were watching a friend's 12-week-old pit bull puppy, and while they slept, the dog chewed the toes off the four-month-old baby. The puppy was put down and the baby was put in foster care after the incident last August.

The judge sentenced the couple 8 to 10 months on the felony charges. Both have already served at least 5 months of their sentence.

While in jail the judge has ordered both to take a parenting classes.

Is she bald ?

Seems that pit bulls can be socialized to be naughty or nice but it appears that many pit bulls still have the destroy gene.

No way to discern which genes they have so I’m all for pitbulls not being pets.

And I’m a dog lover.

ya know, I think at this point, I would rather get rid of pit bull owners than pit bulls. Pit bulls should be legislatively classified as destructive devices at the federal level and regulated as such. It looks to me like 9 times out of 10, the common denominator in a pit bull attack is an owner that wouldn’t be allowed to own a firearm let alone a destructive device. This 12 month old puppy chewed a babies toes off. It is a destructive device. If I can’t own a street sweeper shotgun without massive amounts of government red tape, these dirt bags shouldn’t be able to own these dogs.

I would think the baby would be screaming. I wonder how long it took them to respond to the baby’s cries? How sad.

I think you’d have to be passed out on drugs or liquor not to hear a baby screaming while its toes were being chewed off. Or, you’re used to just letting the baby scream without attending to it. Either way, just damn.

What on earth do these two need a PARENTING CLASS for? Is the court really proposing to give that helpless toeless baby back to them???

“Slept” is not what these two were doing while their baby was screaming loud enough to wake the dead because its toes were being chewed off. These are hard core drug addicts.

Baby’s fault. Baby wiggled its toes, thereby provoking the poor, innocent pit bull deity.

Was watching Gangland (documentary on gangs tv show).

I was bored and tired and trying to sleep. /before I get flamed

In the show they looked into Seattle/Portland
White Supremists then went on to LA Mexican kill all the Blacks gangs.

One thing ALL 3 (black gangs included) had in common was they had Pit Bulls.

Other than finding the Gangs civil/moral code lower than a male Gorilla I found that sad/funny that they all had a need to posses Pit Bulls.

I liken those kind of lost souls to the guy on the corner who feels the needs to physically touch his crotch every 25 seconds to see if still has his manhood.

Those who use Pit Bulls as bling and a the dog commits a crime should be put in a brightly lit room for days on end with the ASPCA commercial playing and the music of Eyes of an Angel with heavy Bass playing Loud.

Pit bulls need to be classified as destructive devices. In this way, the aforementioned dirtbag owners lose their right to own said device and the breed itself can still be allowed to exist but in a more controlled manner that is less likely to result in a baby’s toes being chewed off. Possession of the animal without a license to possess a destructive device would, of course, be a felony equivalent to possessing a hand grenade.

Reported on the Howie Carr Show—radio—within the last ten years, was a sleeping inner-city youngster with peripheral neuropathy (numbness) in his fingers having his fingers chewed off by the family dog. :(

There is something very ironic in these incidents, as my own dachshund would OH!-so-delicately take a dog biscuit held in my own lips. (A dry dog biscuit). ;)

BTW: Can "a boyfriend" be a parent?

Sadly, a lot of owners take that attitude.

Had one owner being sued after his attacked two kids tell me it was the kids fault for “aggrivating” his dog by riding their skates in the ROAD. His dog didn’t like the sound, so he escaped and put the two kids in the hospital.

How people’s brains form thoughts amazes me.

Gangs own pits to avoid going back to prison for owning guns. It’s their “legal” weapon.

Pit bulls are not bad dogs. The problem is that you have two irresponsible owners. Unfortunately, in these cases, the dog winds up paying the ultimate price.

We have all heard that line a million times now. If that is the case, then the best solution isn’t to outlaw bad pitbulls but, rather, to outlaw bad pit bull owners. 90% of the “bad owners” look like they’re probably felons. I’m guessing that’s the case. The law states that such people may not possess firearms. I see no reason not to extend that prohibition to pit bulls and other viscious dog breeds. taking it one step further, given the unique genetic characteristics of this breed, I think the animals need to be classified in the US code as destructive devices just like hand grenades, bombs, rockets, mines, and firearms with a bore greater than 1/2 inch (excluding shotguns). I guarantee more people have been maimed or killed in America by pitbulls than by every other category of destructive device combined. As such, why shouldn’t they be classified as a destructive device? If you are a law abiding citizen, you can own a destructive device provided you go through the proper paperwork and live in a state that authorizes it. This would simply prevent the wrong sorts of people from owning these animals. What’s more, it gives us another reason to lock up the wrong sorts of people when the inevitably refuse to comply with the federal law. That’s a winning solution if you ask me.

I guess. More to the point, I think it should have been a felony for taking possession of the dog in the first place e.g. no different than if they had agreed to babysit an RPG or a hand grenade for the weekend.

“If that is the case, then the best solution isn’t to outlaw bad pitbulls but, rather, to outlaw bad pit bull owners. 90% of the “bad owners” look like they’re probably felons. I’m guessing that’s the case.”

The owners whose dogs are making headlines are doing a great disservice to the breed, and to all the other responsible people who actually did their homework and know what it takes to care for pit bulls, german shepherds, rottweilers, and malinois, to name a few. The vast majority of the almost ten million strong population of pit bulls has never done a thing to harm a person. The minority make it to the news, and ignorant, biased reporters looking for a buck (as we all know they are a business, not a public service) only report on the negative. They don’t bother showing that the dogs can be great pets if bred and raised properly, and that a certain number of people are killed every year by dogs, no matter what breed is the most popular. Before pit bulls became popular, the same amount of people were being killed by other dogs. Pit bulls replaced the other breeds when they became popular. They represent close to 60% of the medium to large breed population in many areas.

“given the unique genetic characteristics of this breed,”

They are not different than any other breed. Millions live their entire lives without incident, due to the owners. Less than a half of a half of a percent of pit bulls do harm, due to the owners. The CDC and AVMA have reported owner irresponsibility as the main cause of dog attacks, not breed.

I do agree with you that not everyone should own a pit bull-type dog, but I also don’t think most should have any working dogs. They need jobs, strong owners, and plenty of socialization. Ask owners of border collies what horrible habits they pick up when bored. Circling, chewing, excessive barking, nervousness, aggression, and self-mutilation are just a few things that can happen when dogs are not in the right environment. Why not pass a law requiring every dog owner to be more responsible? Calgary did, and now they are (rightfully so) bragging about much reduced attack numbers, including serious attacks, and they didn’t even have to ban a breed of dog to accomplish it.
