A Louisiana high school student says he was sent home for wearing an Indianapolis Colts jersey Friday - the day the principal encouraged students to wear New Orleans Saints black and gold as the teams get ready to face off in the Super Bowl.
"If they tell other students to support their team, why can't I support mine?" Brandon Frost, 17, told The Associated Press. The senior at Maurepas High School moved three years ago from Indianapolis to the rural town 30 miles from Baton Rouge.
A Livingston Parish School Board member said Frost wasn't sent home, but was told he couldn't wear the blue jersey at school. Keith Martin, whose district includes Maurepas, said the school uniform had been relaxed only for black and gold.

Several mistakes were made. First, if the school relaxes the rule for one team, it should be relaxed for both.
BUT there is just plain courtesy which neither Mr. Frost nor the school exhibited. Mr. Frost forgot that he was basically sitting on the front porch of the Saints. A rural southern town takes its football very seriously and to wear a blue jersey in such a location is like going over to your neighbors, accepting their hospitality and then saying that basically you don’t like them.
The school board forgot that some people just don’t learn manners and that as good hosts, they should have allowed Mr. Frost to express his individuality. Mr. Frost isn’t from around there and shouldn’t be expected to conform to cultural norms.

It is not rude to recognize a basic personality trait. Mr. Frost can’t help being a yankee. It is just the way he is born. Tolerance and forebearance must be extended.

Respectfully disagree. I live about 15 miles from Neyland Stadium, where the UT Vols play. Rivals and opponents are fully expected to wear their team jerseys, fly their flag, whatever on game day. When we wear orange to work on Friday, we fully expect the Alabama and Ga fans to wear their red, the Ky fans to wear their blue, and the Fla and Auburn fans and grads to wear that gawd-awful bluey-red-orangey combo they both seem to like.
If they don’t wear their team colors, you may not know who to taunt. :)
The school’s policy is as if to say, “Support our team or you can’t be part of the fun.” Bad bad policy and the kids should have been allowed to wear a blue jersey. To forbid it is silly.

Yes, rivals may wear their team colors on GAME DAY in an opposition location. When I have traveled up to Knoxville, I did indeed wear my cherished Navy and Burnt Orange and when you come down to the Loveliest Village, I expect that for some inexplicable reason you’ll wear that garish orange. That is indeed to be expected AT THAT TIME.
However, if I went to Tuscaloosa (home of that trade school), I would stiffle my color combos in an effort to somehow get along. I would never utter a supporting sentence for them (who could?) but I wouldn’t be derogatory either.
But the Super Bowl isn’t being played in New Orleans. Yes, Mr. Frost had the right to wear whatever he wishes. The school was wrong. However, legally right doesn’t necessarily equal proper. If Mr. Frost wanted to irritate his classmates he certainly choose an excellent way of doing it.
I’ll be so happy when the Aint’s get put back under their rock.
The school has a uniform policy. They relaxed it for the day telling the kids to wear their black and gold.
Frost took it on himself to wear the blue and white.
The school told him he had to change shirt to the school uniform.
Don’t worry the kid will end up suing the school and win.
School will stick to wearing the uniform from here on out.

This is so actionable, I could win this case, hands down! And I'd have the trial moved to Indianapolis (in between N'Orleans and Baltimore...) to be assured of an impartial jury. :-)

Hmmmmmmm. My DIL is from there. After having visited there, I can believe it. (Although I have to admit that in our rural community near Houston someone who wore an oppossing team’s jesey had the Texans beeen in the SB would have received a hostile reception as well. (But I doubt he would have been kicked out of class and sent home from school. He may have had his ass kicked though.) LOL!!!

The snippet of the article at the top does not give the information as to whether or not the admin knew Mr. Frost was a Colts supporter. Basically, I do think the school made the greater error and should have extended Mr. Frost the priviledge of his opinions. I think I stated that earlier. I also suspect that there has been a lot of irritation on both sides. So, yes, the obverse is true as well.
