It's a long story, so I'll spare the details, but I have a "must take" trip to Pittsburgh the first week in March (I know; not the optimum time for a visit). My wife and I will be picking up my 2-1/2 year old great-grandson and squiring him around the area. Any and all advice is appreciated; museums, food, places to avoid, etc. Thanks again, Freepers!
That's great! I love the guy too. Here are some more segments he did in Pittsburgh that you might want to check out: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Diners%2C+Drive-ins%2C+and+Dives+pittsburgh&search_type=&aq=f.
I love Italian food and think the closer you get to New York, the better the food gets. Pittsburgh is close enough I'll bet it has some really good Italian restaurants. So I envy you. I hope you and your wife have a really, really great time. Cheers!
Sorry for correcting your spelling. My sister, Roselani, works in SF. I will suggest they go to your Primanti Brothers!
My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
I drive by the original in New Brighton on my way home to Ohio from the Pitt airport whenever go back home.
Oops I mixed you up with another poster.
There is a ton of good Italian in the area.
And Wedding Soup is a very regional delight.
Would you say the aquarium is worth a 2 1/2 hour drive for a family keen on aquariums?
Get a hoagie at Dannys Parkview Pizza, near the entrance to South Park.
Visit mount Washington and ride the Incline.
More later. Show is starting. On iPhone
The Grilled Hot Sausage Hogie is my favorite, love Big Jim’s!
As good as the dogs are, the burgers are better.
I’ve gotta get back East. Tired of these California wannabe Italian restaurants. There are some good ones (if you’re into that healthy fusion Italian-lite stuff). But there’s nothing like East Coast Italian, particularly New York. I expect I’ll be making a trip back this summer.
Vinnie Pie!
I dont even want to tell you what they call Italian in Texas LoL!
All your advice is SO appreciated! I’m looking forward to all the things you’ve recommended.
Goodnight for now, and many thanks!
Awesome looking crust, but it looks like the molten cheese could do serious damage LoL

If it’s warm enough and he likes animals, the Pittsburgh Zoo is great.
I know we really enjoy it—I’m not sure how to judge it, though, since I don’t know much about aquariums in general. The neatest thing on the aquarium side of things, I think, are the glass tunnels, where you can get up close to the sand tiger sharks:

I would also have to agree that a Permanti Bros Sandwich is one of the Seven Wonders of the Culinary World!
Ellery...you must be a native yinzer (or frequent visitor to da Burgh). Great ideas...and as a mom who lives here I can substaniate that the Children’s Museum; the Carnegie Science Center would be awesome for a two and a half year old (also on the North Shore, the National Aviary)...the Pgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium are world class (Highland Park...sorta east).
In March, a boat ride on the 3 Rivers would be pretty cold (and might not even be running yet) but the Gateway Clipper sightseeing tours are pretty neat...as is the Rubber Duckie boat thingy (but those are ‘warm’ weaather activities:)
Now, in addition to Primanti’s n’at...the little guy might like to visit the Big Mac Museum in Irwin, PA (if you wind up in Monroeville, Irwin is one PaTurnpike Exit eastbound). The Museum is really just a souped up McDs (with a play area room) and McDs memorablia...but...as it is minutes from my house (and we eat there often) it a hoot to ‘see’ tour buses/tourists who follow the signs off the turnpike to eat there. We also have been asked ‘can you take our picture infront of the huge cheeseburger?’. Its actually funny.
The little guy might enjoy it :)
