Americans are so polarized right now, even the Super Bowl's dividing them along party lines.
Overall 32% of voters we polled on our last national survey said they'd be rooting for the New Orleans Saints this Sunday, with 22% going for the Indianapolis Colts and 46% expressing no preference.
There's a significant partisan divide within those numbers, as Democrats prefer the Saints by a 36-21 margin while Republicans say they want the Colts to be victorious by a closer 26-25 spread. Independents lean toward the Saints as well, 33-20.
Beyond the partisan divide it's also interesting to note that a plurality of voters don't care about who wins the game. It will still pile up huge ratings Sunday night but that finding just quantifies the fact that for many watching the Super Bowl is more about the spectacle than what happens on the field.
Pretty fun.

Benson, owner of the Saints donates to the Republicans. Most of the die hard N.O. fans come from the DEEP RED SUBURBS.
Louisiana is a true RED STATE while Indiana went BLUE.

Baltimore Colts sounds normal.
But then I’m a Brooklyn Dodgers fan...

Heh... when Diliberto took over "The Point After" radio show (then still called "Hap's Point After" for a time after Hap Glaudi's death), I was one of the guys who used to call in and torment Buddy, sorta like this:
Me: "Hey Hap, what did you think about that play when Bobby overthrew Eric Martin in the end zone? Good grief!!"
Buddy: "I'm not Hap!"
Me: "Then why is the show called Hap's Point After?"
Buddy: "Get this squirrel off of here."
Yes, beer *was* usually involved, but I certainly wasn't alone. That stuff went on *long* after they changed the name of the show (after a proper period of mourning for the late Mr. Glaudi... whose idea of sportscasting had as much to do with the daily trifecta at the racetrack as it did with stuff like football). Buddy took a lot of ribbing from his fans, but he was a good sport. He understood that the Saints fans needed to work out their frequent frustration, and he never complained about the abuse that he took. All in all, he was a good man.
Yeah, I know what Buddy vowed to do if the Saints ever made it to the big game.
Sunday before last, did you see the Buddy D. flags that someone placed at Lee Circle?

LOL. Absolutely. It is a really fun atmosphere all over the area. Everyone is so excited.

So with that in mind...GEAUX SAINTS!!
My primary team is the Jets, but I'll also cheer for whoever is playing against the Colts or Patriots.
I think the people of New Orleans should be celebrating the generosity this nation has showed them, as well as this sporting event.
Everyone I know is beholding to the nation for the kindness shown to us during and post Katrina - that is a fact. But, we will take time out to support our team who have also given so much of themselves to our city. The Saints are more than a team, they are part of our citys fabric. They are constantly teaming up with local businesses to help the city. This time is for our Saints, sorry.
I would rather be in NOLA for the big celebration.
The French Quarter has been buzzing for a week. It truly is a Mardi Gras mood for Saints Fans. People are coming from all over to New Orleans to celebrate and watch the game. Indeed, Geaux Saints!
My home team, the Colts, are amazing men, and we are tickled that they are going to the Superbowl again. But we all know, in our hearts, that on any given day, any team can win.
They are all great....but the Saints and the Colts ROCKED it this past season and will play a good game on Sunday. May the best team win on Sunday and if our team loses, may we still remember what it took to get there!

But we face a dreaded foe: the evil hoof-footed heathens of Indianapolis led by their renowned warrior, Peyton, the Manning. With much shame we confess, Lord, he is the spawn of one of our own--a veritable Judas.
So on this Lord's day next, we beseech your benevolence, Father. Send down Your blessings on our hero, Drew "Breesus" Brees. Anoint him with an arm gilded with zip and accuracy.
Embolden your faithful, St. Reggie Bush, with legs that only run north, and sanctify your servant, Darren Sharper, with hands that will snatch the traitor Manning's bombs from the air.
For on that first Sunday in February. Lord, if you allow us this Super Bowl victory, all of the Saints and their faithful followers will chant "Who Dat" praises to you forever more.
There will be great joy abounding in the Who Dat capital--The Big Easy, and You, Lord, shall win a great victory over the evil one, for on that day of the Lord, as the Saints are glorying in their Super Bowl victory, surely hell will freeze over!

BTW, Archie really is rooting for the Saints.
He said ( and I am paraphrasing here ) that supporting Peyton in his first superbowl was amazing and to have Eli hit that mark the following year was just extremely emotional.
But ya think of the years he played for the Saints and ya think of the love he must have for the Saints team ( not to mention where he lives! lol ) and ya just understand why he might be rooting for theSaints (but he will be happy, either way, which makes it about a perfect game for Archie!!! ).
WHY? Because he is an excellent quarterback?
