Hi all, don't know if you've seen my previous threads, but I'm in the market for a conceal/carry (pocket) handgun....thanks much for your awesome advice.
I've almost landed on the new Kahr 380 for a variety of reasons...mostly the size (I know I'd pocket-carry everywhere) and Kahr's reputation. The smallest 9mm I've found is still to big to pocket-carry, and the .40 is for sure way to big.
Anyway, curious to know if you have any comments or feedback.
Thanks in advance,
Scott
“Have you checked out a Kel-Tec 9mm..”
I have...good weight but the frame’s too big for me....
“have you considered a rohrbaugh”
I did until I found out they’re $1000!!!!
Get the Kahr, if that’s what you want.
Remember, Kahr recommends a 200 round break in period. Also, shoot as many different brands of ammo you can, to see which one your gun likes. Any of the name brand self-defence rounds should be good.
“S&W 642. You heard it here first. :)”
Besides being bigger than the Kahr, having less capacity and slower reloading, I just dont like hammerless revolvers. People buy them for being “snaggless” but I have never snagged a snubby in thousands of pocket draws. Just keep your thumb under the hammer spur and it is impossible to snag. Why anyone would want to cripple a revolver and eliminate its most accurate mode is ridiculous IMO.
That's pretty much everything I remember from the article, except for the accuracy charts, so it's rather complete.
.22 Baretta. Light, well made. Cheap to shoot. Good penetration of human flesh, skull if dead on( known to ricochet if off angle ), large capacity( enough for two large males to suffer debilitating chest wounds. )
380 ammo was expensive before it became scarce. I’d guess it will probably never be as econmomical as 9mm’s.
“over under .45 derringer.”
.45 long Colt. Perfect.
Interesting...you know one of the biggest reasons I’ve almost landed on the 380 is because of the Mossad. Those Bad-Arses carry 22’s....so now I don’t feel so bad going with something smaller in caliber than say a 9mm...
Check out the Kel-tec P11. Nice light 9mm. Great prices.
Put em right on down.
Always good advice. Wife and I each have a 642 with laser grips. Always handy and just the right size. Hammer shroud allows firing from inside pocket or purse.
Wish I was able to fire my dad’s 1911A1 .45 more than twice.
Another I like is the North American .22 revolver. About the size of a Zippo. I knew a boat captain who worked a lot in the Caribbean and South America and carried one on 5lb mono around his neck, hanging down his shirt. He even got arrested and it wasn’t found. However it is so small that it has no visual impact, people/criminals don’t even see it in your hand, where as even a .22 Beretta looks like some kind of gun, and if it’s pointing at you, who’s going to stick around to get the exact caliber?
Criminals, by and large, are in it to live another day. They prey on the weak. This is kind of a classical definition, as there are a lot of dumb, twisted, youths that are making bones and will risk 20 to life for just bragging rights.
I think the .22 has better ballistics vis a vis people than a .380 too.
That’s my backup (well, other than my .45 Glock 30) for my 642. Mine has the pretty walnut grips.
Does it jam after every second shot?
I like .22’s. Ruger bull barrel, stuff like that. It’s fun to shoot a lot for ten bucks.
Even if you carry something else, shoot more, more often for your own benefit with .22’s. I have heard of .45 having kits for back and forth conversions to .22. That might be fun. I know I used to shoot cheap .38’s through my .357s.
