A possible explanation for Brett Farve's inexplicable, 4th quarter interception in the NFC Championship Game, which aborted a game winning Vikings drive ... from Rick Cleveland's blog ...
For all those who have criticized Favre for throwing instead of running on that last play against the Saints, check out Brett's left ankle and his right hamstring.
Dang, son. That's UGLY.
Cry if you will as most Vikings have. Yes, blinders on to what was not called by the refs that should have gone against the Vikes.
The lame azz team of the Vikes had a 1st and goal and couldn’t score before the half.
They had the opportunity of a life time with more than 3 minutes left in the game and BLEW IT!! THE VIKINGS SUCKED.
Played good against the Cowboys but sucked.
All you whining tits crying about the Ikes and them dominating the game, maybe, but not the scoreboard.
Shoulda, coulda, woulda in the words of Mora Sr, thats what the pathetic iking fans are going to do all year. Wait till next season their lil battle cry.
Favre retires, I expect a lot of iking fans to commit suicide.
NO FIX, they had a QB that has been consistent at BLOWING it all his life when it comes to pressure.
Sorry Favre, Sterling Sharp was no where to be found on your chucked balls.
I have said/written all year how crappy our Saints D is, yet they still managed to help win the game.
Refaints, kind of like rebirth, like it.
GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!! go home iking fans. LOL
>>> No, accurate. <<<
No, it is most certainly not ‘accurate’.
The only reason the Vikings were in the game was because of Favre’s penchant to move the ball downfield.
>>>> The storyline: Favres Vikings totally outplay the favored Saints in New Orleans for four quarters in the NFC title game. <<<<
The Vikings most certainly did not outplay the Saints.
As for Favre, your article left out this fact:
>>>> In Super Bowl XXXI, Favre completed 14 of 27 passes for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the second play of the game, Favre threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to receiver Andre Rison. Favre also completed an 81-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Freeman in the second quarter (then a Super Bowl record). Favre rushed for 12 yards and another touchdown, as the Packers won Super Bowl XXXI over the New England Patriots, 3521. In their 19 games of the season, the Packers had a turnover ratio of plus 24, and outscored their opponents 10048 in the playoffs.[31] <<<<
>>> Agreed. The penalty kicks in soccer are better than the NFL overtime. At least in soccer—and baseball and basketball—both teams get the ball. <<<
Oh, that is ridiculous. Penalty kicks in soccer are the worst way possible to end a game.
And you are forgetting the ‘golden ball’ rule in soccer. If nobody wins after the first five shots, then the next team to score wins. That is the same as the NFL rule of sudden death in overtime.

You’re not getting my point.
Yes, the Vikings screwed up. Yes, the game was in their hand. Yes, the refs should have NOT been the deciding factor.
But when it came down to it, the refs WERE the deciding factor and handed the game to the Refaints. The fix was in but the Vikings couldn’t overcome both their own screwups AND the refs.
The thumb was on the scale — and it will be in the SB for the Refaints.
>>The Vikings most certainly did not outplay the Saints.<<
They did, but their play against themselves was worse. The Refaints could have just sat on the sidelines and watched the Vikings fight themselves to a draw. And then all the Refaints would have to do is wait for the refs to hand them the game.
Oh wait, that is what happened.
Silly me.
I did get your point. Again, blaming the refs.
Saints fans in the Dome that day will tell you the calls were going against the Saints.
A couple of touchdowns were scored on bad 3rd down calls against the Saints.
It happens. The Saints O overcame some of the mistakes by our own D, Bush and the questionable bad calls by the refs. See game film.
Favre BLEW IT. Many fans were packing it in on that last drive committing on what a wonderful year it was.
True to form, Favre threw and interception. Gave life to the Saints.
A coin toss went the way of the Saints. Must have been a fix when your guys got to call it. May have been a different outcome had Allan called it correct.
The 1st and 10 PI was a bad call. It would have been 2nd and 10. Bad call by the refs but not overturned upstairs.
Many would stake their life on it that Brees would have gotten them out of a 2nd and 10. Did it all year. Consider the Redskin game.
How did the refs fix it so Hartley would attempt a 40 yard FG? Most Saints fans had little to no faith he could actually hit it. Place was silent, he did. NO FIX!!!, no thumb on the scale.
Game over.
The ikings didn’t play any where near what they did against the Cowboys.
Our crappy D still beat you guys.
If we had lost, we wouldn’t be blaming anyone but our on again off again D And still walked away happy.
WIn or loss the SB, Saints fans are going to be happy and look forward to the next year and attempting to do the same.
Enjoy the SB. I will. I’ll even let you root for the SAINTS!
>>I did get your point. Again, blaming the refs.<<
4 obvious bad calls in a row and you blind yourself to the truth. Whatever gets you through the night.
The thumb is on the scale. I am hoping the Colts blast the Refaints out of the stadium. They won’t make the mistakes the Vikings did. The Refaints will be exposed as a mediocre but lucky team, aided by the NFL front office directives for the entire year. Of course, we can compare the recovery of the entire Mexican Gulf coast (apx. 500,000 people) from 2 Hurricanes (9 months to complete reconstruction) to the whiners in NOLA (4 years and apx. 300,000 people). The Refaints reflect their population — whiners who need an elbow on the scale constantly.
The Giants a few years ago also stumbled their way into and through a SB win.
I suspect and hope the Colts expose the Refaints for the mediocre team they really are.
Boo hoo, baby “wikin”g need to go to bed. dream lil viking that one day your team will make it back to the super bowl and blow it like you always have.
Again, if Favre retires from FB, I expect a lot of worthless fans committing suicide. I just fear for those baby wikes.
I’m ashamed of myself to ever think for so many years the Cowboys were the worst fans in the league. I was awaken.
GB is going to be winning that division for the next several years.
HURRICANE FAVRE BLEW IT FOR YOU GUYS!!
GEAUX SAINTS!!!!! GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!!!! GEAUXXXXX SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
I swear if Mangini wasn't thinking about that 20 foot roast beef sub sandwich he had hidden in the locker room, the Fat bass-terd might have pulled an upset.
Even though I was pulling for the Colts to play my Saints, it would have been great to play the Jets.
Sanchez didn't play at all like a rookie.
You are really invested in your dislike of Favre.
Only the best and most consistent QB ever, I can understand how you would come to dislike him. He succeeds from his own efforts. The Refaints need lots and lots of help from the NFL via the refs.
You can ignore my points if you wish. I don’t blame you. It always hurts to know the team you worship needs extra-curricular help (and boy, do the Refaints need it!).
And you CERTAINLY can ignore the point I made that Mexico did more in 9 months than NOLA has done in 4+ years. That is almost as embarrassing as having a championship handed to you by refs who are preprogrammed in favor of the perennial victims.
As a life long resident of the city of New Orleans, who, alongside with many of my fellow citizens came home, dug out, rebuilt, and have seen with my own eyes the enormous rebirth of the city I love with all my heart and soul, you my friend can kiss my WHO DAT!!!
Actually I have always liked Favre just like he has always been a fan of the Saints.
Watching him lose to the Cowboys 11 times really, really sucked.
Throwing up Mississippi prayer balls were always an embarrassment unless Sharp was there to catch it.
You as a wiking fan I’m sure hated him playing against your team, true?
Not ignoring your useless points at all. You judge the game by the calls that were made against you. Look at the awful calls against the Saints that put you guys in scoring position.
The refs were looking out for the old man. As one wiking fan wrote, they have to, he is a future Hall of Fame’r. What HS!
Some plays against Drew were not called. Only the old man gets the favorable calls.
Again accusing me of something you are guilty yourself of. Shameful wiking fan.
Does anything ever get built in the US on time anymore? You and I can agree it takes forever to rebuild anything in the US.
It’s over 10 years and little has been done at the WTC.
Seriously, I never knew, and I’ve been up to Minnesota many of times, that the wiking fans were such losers. I know that stadium sucks, but I thought better of the team.
Don’t cry to hard wiking fans in your wild rice and flat beer. It’s only a game.
Maybe Fran Tarkenton will come out of retirement and save you guys next year. LOL
Heres something to keep in your head this off season. Hope it helps.

When 2 -- not 1, but 2, hurricanes flattened Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and the entire Maya Rivera, removing their legendary beaches and destroying 100% of their livelihood, the Governor of Quntana Roo went to each major city center with shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows and gave a simple, yet eloquent speech: "If we do not work, we do not eat."
That day, every person in each area started working: digging out, assisting construction, clearing barriers. THEY WERE NOT PAID other than being fed communally and having rent or mortgages temporarily suspended (to be repaid later).
No $2K debit cards. No $400 a night hotels. Just hard work and a shared understanding of what is necessary. No whining.
For them, for 500,000 - 9 months and a LOT of elbow grease. For NOLA, for 300,000 -- 4 1/2 years of whining and "gimme gimme gimme whine whine whine" which continues to this day.
If you don't feel shame, you should. Mexico showed the "can do" spirit the USA used to show.

That said, the guy played a great game vs. the Saints. He took a beating and almost willed the Vikings into the Super Bowl. It still takes 40 guys and a coaching staff to win a football game. Just ask Fran Tarkenton or Jim Kelly or Dan Marino.

When discussing sport never EVER let facts get in the way of a good urban legend. I already noted that Favre’s first pass was NOT an INT, but a pass to himself — but facts have no meaning to haters.
Nice stat chart! (/Admire)
His first pass in an NFL game was intercepted and brought back for a touch down. Redskins win.
Sorry wiking, not an urban legend as you would have yourself believe.
As a Packer his first completion was too himself and it resulted in lost yardage.
