If this issue has already been addressed; my apology. I did a search for the subject, but found nothing.
Is anyone else having problems accessing Free Republic lately? Ever since the SOTU address, it's been almost impossible to access the site. Usually, I just get sent back to my orginal website instantly. At other times, after a several minute delay, I'll get a "connection could not be made/server proxy error; site down for maintenance or heavy traffic.
I don't think it's a problem with my computer because I can get to any other site in a snap.
Same here in New Mexico, poster in West Virginia told me he could not get in either.
Your not alone. There’s a major problem here with access.
I just logged in with no problem.....yesterday, however, there was an hour or so where FR wouldn’t load.
Yes there is a problem, very slow connection, pages loading slowly, just getting to post this may not happen. I have noticed this intermittently the last several days. I have no problems at other sites

That could be a big part of it. DOS kiddies like to screw with us.
By the way, for those who are wondering about FR's hardware, my understanding is that we have about a dozen servers at the data center. About half of them are dedicated to handling Free Republic back-end processing. We also have a couple front-end servers directing the traffic and balancing the load, a couple database servers, an administrative server, a secure server, and a real-time database backup server. We have two main IP's, one as a standby if the first goes down. We also have some older servers that John uses for backup and development.
Theoretically, we have a fail-safe system. The "fail" seems to be working great, now we're working on perfecting the "safe" part.
It appears that our current series of crashes have to do with our traffic load. It appears that our servers begin overloading and first one crashes (by becoming completely jammed and failing to respond) then the next, and the next, etc, until the entire system and all backups fail to respond. That's when we have to start rebooting. And we've had some problems recently with our rebooting process.
We do not know yet why we are overloading. We have been able to handle several times our normal load with no problem. We do not rule out DOS attack, but cannot find anything in the logs to identify it. John will continue trying to isolate the problem, but we do not feel at this time that it is for a lack of server power.
All I can say is, please bear with us. We've experienced these kinds of systems problems before whether hardware, software, balancing or Bolshevik, and have always been able to work through or around them eventually.
God willing, we will persevere!
Me too. It is an honor though to be worthy of attack.
Mmm.. fine in the UK, but I did get my login disabled for no reason I know of.
Are you logged in?
Thank you
I’ve suspected this for a couple days now. I have a huge pipe and when I cant bring a webpage up in less than a second or so its down. Dont know if a DOS attack by running or something more sinister.
One other thing, you have to watch clicking on links. I forget what link I clicked on but all my bells and whistles went off and the site was denied access by my firewall. I did a scan and nothing entered the system but how many folks run tight security?
directly and/or indirectly—bigbromofo at the bottom every woodpile!!!!!!
There's "other stuff"?
The commies don’t like free speach. It must be stopped in any way necessary.

You’re welcome. Post 59 on that thread also has a reposted message and info.
I opened my browser this morning and nothing. This has been happening for a week. I keep thinking my router is faulty but other sites work.
FR is my startpage, so it can be confusing
It is not FR/Jim’s fault.
All postings per SecurityFrauMarshal Jhanet Napalitano go through various agency servers. That is what is slowing up everything. Now that the weekend is over the FBI/CIA/DHS, their I.T. guys will sort it out by March, July at the latest.
You can go to this site for updates and explanations when FR is slow or down...

Especially look for posts by “jimrob”.
Jim Robinson Industries needs to charge everyone a dollar just because we’re annoying whiners.
