Pinging the HDTV list..
HDTV pings!

Interested in the HDTV ping list?
Please Freepmail me (freepmail works best) if you would like your name added to the HDTV ping list, ( approximately 380 freepers are currently on the HDTV ping list ).
The pinged subjects can be HDTV technology, satellite, cable, and OTA HD reception (Over The Air with roof top or indoor antennas), Broadcast specials, Sports, Blu-ray/HDDVD, and any and all subjects relating to HDTV.
Note: if you search Freerepublic using the keyword "“HDTV”, you will find most of the past HDTV postings.

This is great that TV technology is improving, but ? the content that people are watching is getting worse...
The stuff that Follywood is producing is crap.
Produce more family friendly movies, movies that hold dear our traditional values, movies that don't make America look bad.

I guess he can't afford a HDMI-DVI cable?

I find it ironic that the technology for bigger and better TV’s has arrived just as Hollywood has stopped making much worth actually watching on those TV’s.

The thing that has Big Media worried is that the capital costs of creating and distributing video entertainment has come way down, to the point where a group of people who decide to produce their own shows can bypass Big Media entirely.

THis is why they want to shift to 3D and hyper-high-definition, to lock out the little guys.

I have Slingbox and get streaming TV on my PDA.

And I am typing this on my 7” Netbook, which has a fantastic display. Said Netbook also gets my Slingbox TV using either my PDA as a tethered modem or just through the Internet (WiFi or wireful).

My home TV OTOH is still a tube LOL...

Ever think he doesn't have a DVI port?

No need to search for the remote. You've got voice-activated menu access, with channels and programs at your command.

That sounds great singles living alone - but for everyone else?
I want to watch the History Channel, my wife wants to watch the Soap Channel.

I watch a lot of my TV these days (except for live sports) online... I mostly search for “old-fashioned” shows. The modern product of Hollywood is so much trash... even the sports and “family” movies have reprehensible commercials. It’s gotten nearly impossible to find purely family fare.

I have a laptop connected to my HDTV via standard (long) video cable. I also have a WDTV box which allows AVI/MPG/WMV direct from a standard external USB hard drive connected to the HDTV.

Check the connections on the 50-inch. I bet there is a way to connect the laptop.

Just installed this Samsung 58" B850 Plasma

And this RTI controller will take over the functions of seven OEM remotes. Yamaha 1609 A/V for the sound, Jamo C603 surround sound with massive subwoofer, Samsung BlueRay with WiFi for streaming Netflix movies, APC power conditioner, PS3 integrated as well. The lower set is a Vizio 42 for viewing secondary media. RTI programming will allow control of dual video feeds, switch the primary feed to the lower TV and vice versa...

Try component cable, red blue green... even though it's analog, it's still HD.

I’d like to know the failure rate of electronics that are mounted/located above fireplaces versus those not.

Now if they could only invent a TV that removes the ever-present netword ID’s they display and the super-annoying animated advertisements at the bottom half of the screen that they play during a show.

Still watching my off brand Maxent 52” plasma (has panasonic guts)that I bought in 2005, no loss of brightness, no burnin.

I bought the Logitech Harmony remote then to control the screen, Sony blueray, DTV DVR, Yamaha AV. I recently added the Wii to it.

LOL, guess we’ll find out! The gas fireplace doesn’t really put out too much directly to the monitor space...goes straight up mostly. My installer didn’t think it would be a problem since there’s about 20 feet of vertical space above for heat dissipation.
