Obama kills U.S. manned space program
Fox News Channel | 1/29/10

Per a NASA spokesman, Obama has killed the country's manned space program by cutting all funding for it. The Constellation program was to be the next manned space program to send people back to the Moon and build a Moon base, then to send astronauts to Mars. Obama wants the money for increased spending on his constituants. Killing the Constellation Program means the $9B already spent is down the drain and an estimated 4,600 jobs will have been ended.

I wonder how Crist is going to reply ... Shutdown of Cape Canaveral is going to be bad for Florida employment.

I doubt the NASA manned space program is dead. If it is, we can always hitch a ride on the Russian, Chinese, Japanese or Indian manned rockets.

Carter cut the B-1, Reagan built the new and improved B-1b.

Its far more important we transfer wealth to morons and ignorant uneducated immigrants, than it is to continue our technology excellence in space. Besides the manned space program employs mostly those evil white people.

How are we going to repair the satellites though?

I thought he was ‘fighting’ to create jobs? More like he’s destroying them.

Obama doesn’t write the budget.

Lets remember that.

As far as I’m concerned, Obama can take an untethered spacewalk...where he can then try to thumb a ride home.

I'm not particularly inclined to bash Obama on this.

Every president since LBJ has been anemic at best on manned space exploration. I certainly don't think McCain would have been any different.

Combine that with NASA, that has wandered around in a daze since the late eighties, spending billions on canceled project after canceled project, and you get basically no hope for a return to space exploration in our lifetimes.

Unless it's done commercially.

This is clearly another way for the Usurper to destroy American Exceptionalism.

Third World countries don't need no stinking satellites!

Not to worry he actually increased NASA’s budget by a few billion, he wants it spent on AGW though.

A good question. Actually, there's some substance here ~ it costs much more to repair your average satellite in space using current Shuttle technology than it does to just build and launch a new satellite.

If the Russian researchers NASA and DOD have hidden away have had success with using electric fields to shield objects from Earth's gravity (a really top secret crypto cosmic type program you never hear about anymore) we actually don't need the rockets!

However, I doubt Obama would pass up this chance to turn rocket money into highway pavement (or concrete trestles) in his Congressional district, and in Detroit, but he may well have screwed it up with the failure to provide for the Indiana link between Chicago and Michigan.

Guy is really weak on geography.

Now that we need you, Lyndon LaRouche, where are you? Or for that matter, where are the disciples of the great and magnificent L. Ron Hubbard?

One of the key LaRouche platform planks was colonization of the planet Mars by 2025, and that seems to be pretty much dead letter now. Physicist Edward Teller used a sure, fund-winning tactic when he testified before a Senate committee in favor of the Apollo project. “What do you expect to find on the moon?” he was asked. His answer: “The Russians.”

Apparently nobody is afraid of the Russians any more. The Islamic world sure isn’t going to spend a great deal on exploring outer space.

Maybe the Chinese will undertake this great interplanetary expansion. If so, that kind of knocks all of Star Trek and a number of other science-fiction tales into a cocked hat.

Barack Obama- the first POTUS my age or younger...I’m so disappointed. He’s at least ten years too young to be of the 60’s radical left mentality...somewhere, somehow, somebody really work him over good...and he liked it!

Once you end the research, the production of the technology, and scatter the engineers who made up the program - you don’t get it back. It’s gone forever.

Imagine if Spain and England had simply stopped producing ships in the 1500’s? And decided 50 years later they wanted to get back into the game?

It’s obvious: Why spend money on those 4,600 jobs which are obviously not ‘shovel ready’ (non-union), when that money should be spent on ‘shovel ready’ (union) jobs.

Likewise Huntsville, Alabama... the core of technology in this state. Of course, this is generally a Republican area.

Precisely.

This segment of his nefarious plan calls for the neutralization of the US’s superiority in space defense.

Every step of the way its about dhimishing and marginalizing the US of A.
