With only a few "household items" you can make a torch that's relatively safe* that can last for up to an hour.
step 1 supplies For this project you will need an piece of 100% cotton cloth* (I used an old under shirt) a sturdy stick or a scrap piece of wood a stapler a hammer and tiki torch oil or kerosene
*Has to be 100% cotton (or Kevlar ) please don't use any material that melts when burned
step 2 wrapping the torch the first thing you want to do is get a rag that's about twelve inches wide and roughly twenty four inches long and fold it width wise until its about seven inches wide, and staple one end to the stick with three staples like in the picture.
You can use wire or wire mesh to affix the cloth instead of staples ( I used staples cause I had them and it took the least time to use) Do not use zip ties unless they are metal core , even then I wouldn't (who wants melted plastic all over their hands :P)

Ive never seen it...
It's a kid's movie. Cute, funny movie with Andre the Giant in it.
"You are the Brute Squad!"
Worth a couple of hours time merely for the humor and gags, but watch out for the ROUS.

"tiki torch oil or kerosene."
Use Citronella oil and it will keep the mosquitoes away. (true, we use it in small kerosene laterns when sitting outside in the summer...works pretty good.)

Forget all that. Get a cast iron bath tub. Fill it 1/3 with kerosene. Add 30 pounds of sawdust and stir until mixed thoroughly. Add two large liquid laundry detergent jugs and mix thoroughly. Portion mixture into garden pump sprayers with spray tip removed leaving open tubbing, and get a six-pack of Bic lighters. ... Flaming, running Congresscritters make an excellent light sources, until they fall down. ... The brits had something similar they called ‘jelliednite’. Lit up the Huns real good.

Thanks for the useful and enlightening info. For some reason when I was a kid I was always curious how people made a proper torch that would burn for a long time, like the ones you saw in the movies. There was a movie that cub scouts were supposed to see where a boy lost in the woods made a long-lasting torch with a pine cone. But I knew that was totally bogus. I guess the “authorities” were worried about cub scouts making real torches.
To: TheCause
I don’t know about the rest of ya’ll, but I’m using *my* torch to light a sack of dog poo on the steps of Congress.
Anyone want to ring the door bell for me?
