How to make a torch for less than a dollar

With only a few "household items" you can make a torch that's relatively safe* that can last for up to an hour.

step 1 supplies For this project you will need an piece of 100% cotton cloth* (I used an old under shirt) a sturdy stick or a scrap piece of wood a stapler a hammer and tiki torch oil or kerosene

*Has to be 100% cotton (or Kevlar ) please don't use any material that melts when burned

step 2 wrapping the torch the first thing you want to do is get a rag that's about twelve inches wide and roughly twenty four inches long and fold it width wise until its about seven inches wide, and staple one end to the stick with three staples like in the picture.

You can use wire or wire mesh to affix the cloth instead of staples ( I used staples cause I had them and it took the least time to use) Do not use zip ties unless they are metal core , even then I wouldn't (who wants melted plastic all over their hands :P)

With the economy the way it is I thought that making a torch for less than a dollar might come in handy?

Now if we could make a decent pitchfork for pocket change, we could give our elected representatives the kind of homecoming they deserve!

Set up a stand sellin ‘em just outside DC city limits. Millions will be heading that way soon.

Got a recipe for homemade pitchforks too?

A melting pot for tar and a feather pillow
and some politicians and I’d say we were
ready to go.

If its Kevlar, I’m using it for armor.

I am concerned about the use of kerosene could have on the environment.

Is there a green alternative?

...but where can I find cut rate pitchforks?

...and then there is the need for tar and feathers.

Finally, a rail.

I think you can use burlap instead of cotton, and grease instead of kerosene.
