New Orleans Saints win NFC championship, advance to Super Bowl XLIV

There were 42 years worth of demons, 42 years of mostly struggles, 42 years of waiting until next year. Not anymore. This, the 43rd year of the New Orleans Saints, will be different.

In one swing of Garrett Hartley's right leg Sunday night, the Saints kicked away their demons, booted out their past struggles and ended the wait.

The Saints are going to Super Bowl XLIV. Hartley's 40-yard winning field goal in overtime of the Saints' thrilling 31-28 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC championship game guaranteed them a spot.

"I just knew when it came off my foot it was going to split the bars, " said Hartley, the Saints' second-year kicker. "I just turned around and put my hands up in the air and hugged (holder Mark) Brunell. This team is headed to Miami now."

Just when our Viking friends were getting over their hangovers, you go and post this.

LOL

Someone needs to post a suicide support thread.

Ya, but it was tough to see Favre take such a beating and in the end let his team down with a dumb decision.

Too funny.

I really enjoyed the Jets/Colts game.

Sanchez didn’t appear to be a rookie in the game.

Should be a real good team next year.

Two great games yesterday.

Good to see a New Orleans break the “Never Played in a Super Bowl” hex.

Maybe the Cleveland Browns will join them one day.

Remaining teams to have “Never Played in a Super Bowl”

* Cleveland Browns
* Houston Texans
* Jacksonville Jaguars
* Detroit Lions

(ps. -don’t bother telling me about the Ravens)

The Vikings biggest opponent on that field last night were thge Vikings.

Yes, they were. With twice the yardage and the time control of the ball of that of the Saints, three fumbles and 2 interceptions did the Vikings in.

Why oh why didn’t Brett run for it? Unless all those uncalled Saints late hits made his ankles useless.

Two standard problems with the Vi-queens.

1. Stone Hands Peterson.

2. Brett “ when the game is on the line, I’ll toss an interception” Favre. He ends every year doing the same thing. I predicted it. He’s cool and calm...except when it matters the most. Buh bye bart.

Sanchez didn’t appear to be a rookie in the game.

His best game of the year, and they lose. Once Shaun Greene went down I announced to the room that the Jets were done. The Jets without a run game is Samson with a crewcut.
