Candidate Barack Obama is back on the campaign trail today in Elyria, Ohio for a townhall meeting on jobs. The "uhs" and "and, and, ands" that he overcame as President Obama are back and so is the "Great Healer" persona. Don't worry America. He's gonna Barack your world! Hope and change are coming ... again.
"This is not about me! This is not about me! This is not about me! This is about you!" He shouts to the adoration of the applauding crowd. Candidate Obama reminds the people of Ohio that he ran for president to fix all of their problems once and for all. (The Great Healer.)
His political advisors told him that healthcare reform "might not be such a smart idea" given the two wars and the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression, but he didn't listen to those naysayers. He knows that the people need healthcare reform because they've lost their jobs and their COBRA insurance has run out. (Bush's fault.) Their insurance premiums and out-of-pocket expenses have doubled and tripled. They need healthcare reform.
It's the Congressional process that has denied the people the healthcare reform that they need. (Under the bus go Pelosi and Reid.) The process is long and complex. The lobbyists and special interests from the insurance companies and big pharma are fighting the process. But they've come a long way, despite the "little bit of a buzzsaw this week." (Brown's election.)
Now everyone in Washington is "in a tizzy." Democrats and Republicans. Political analysts. "Is Obama gonna survive this? Is he weakened?" They ask. Well, "that's what they do." He'll take his lumps to get healthcare reform for the people because they need it. If he were doing this for high poll ratings, he'd "just do nothing." That's how you get high poll ratings. Do nothing. (He's right about that. Candidate Obama had extremely high poll ratings for doing absolutely nothing, ever.)
But America, don't get the impression that he isn't focused on jobs because that's all he does. Think about how to create more jobs. Because this is not about him, it's about you. (Right.)
Candidate Obama is back to tell us what we need! And what we need is healthcare reform. (So, go back to sleep, America.)
I think he’ll give us a “talking to” in his State of the Union address. He believes that he has the gift of persuasion. He’ll wrap his claims of inheritance with an explanation of how what he inherited was far worse than anyone realized. To him we’re just a bunch of petulant children who don’t understand the complexity of the process in Washington.
