First, the Dallas Cowboys' Web site said that they were going to keep Wade Phillips. Then the team said that wasn't official yet. At the end of the day, though, Phillips is still the head coach for the Dallas Cowboys.
Wade Phillips' contract option was picked up and Jerry Jones added two more years to the deal.
Phillips is 33-15 in three years with Dallas and has a major playoff win over the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.
He has taken this team's defense to second overall in the entire NFL. Seven Cowboys are going to the Pro Bowl this year. More can come in if certain players choose to not participate and the Dallas alternate can go instead.
The Cowboys have been known as a team that not only couldn't win it all, but couldn't even stay in the dance. Wade Phillips changed that, and the Cowboys have rewarded him by keeping him in Dallas.
The Cowboys are in the right system now with a playoff win. I cannot wait for next season.
Is it me or does 2012 look a little better? Of course the current playoff teams may shift before then.
it looks a little better.
Chan Gailey is a waste of time too.
You won’t realize how good Reid and McNabb are until they’re gone.
For me, Flozell is a microcosm of the frustration of being a Cowboys fan. He's one of the best tackles in the league, but if you go on the Cowboys message boards, there are constant calls to cut him. He's aging and that time will come, but Cowboys fans want to blow up the whole team, fire the coaches, hang the owner, and burn down the stadium after every loss. If we go on a three game win streak, they want to put everyone in Canton.
Romo is a good quarterback, top quarter of the league. Phillips is a good coach, carrying around a .630 winning percentage with the Cowboys. Tom Landry didn't win a title until he'd been in the league eleven years. Cowher took well over ten years to win a title.
Phillips has coached three years and won two NFC East titles. FIRE HIS AZZ!!!!!
BTW, I'm also a Texas Longhorns fan, and believe it or not, there are people shouting to fire Mack Brown, who holds the NCAA record for most consecutive ten win seasons and a national title.
Cowher’s priced himself out of the market and is insisting on complete control of football operations. Practically no team is willing to give that level of control to the HC. He might find a super down and out team with nothing to lose, but Holmgren left Green Bay over this issue, and the Chargers cut Marty S. over it. Those were both guys with excellent resumes.
True. IMHO, Joe Gibbs was one of the best actual coaches ever, and I say that as a Cowboys fan. He won more games with less talent (3 Super Bowl wins with three different quarterbacks, two of whom were total journeymen) and ALWAYS had the Skins in the hunt during his first tenure. A HOF quarterback makes a lot of difference.
I'm a Wade supporter. He's never had more than three years with a franchise before. A few coaches have had immediate success, but they showed up with a franchise that was primed for a Super Bowl run. This includes Gruden with the Bucs, Switzer with the Cowboys, and Shanahan with the Broncos.
Wade isn't a media or television guy, and that's part of his problem. Fans want a Cowher, who screams, sticks his jaw out and sends spittle flying when he talks, or a Landry who strikes that iconic pose.
In terms of substance, Wade is a good coach.
The one thing I’ve never understood about Reid is why he’ll call a balanced game for Garcia or whoever else is replacing McNabb, but totally abandons the run when McNabb is under center.
He's an easy target b/c of the false starts he gets called on, prob more miscommunication on the end of the line than anything. Doug Free did a great job this season, but he was overpowered against the Vikes. He'll be a great OT though - he stepped up this season and showed what he can do.
Wade is making steady progress - the current lineup has a tremendous upside, I hope they find the ceiling.
I have heard that Flozell the Hotel is deaf in his ear that is closest to the qb. That may account for the number of false start penalties. Other than that, he’s still a good player.
Flozell is deaf in one ear, and IIRC, it’s the ear towards the QB from his position. While it’s been discussed to move him to the other side of the line, the fact is that nobody else has shown the ability to anchor that position, which is, IMHO, the most critical on the O-line. The guard has linemen to either side on every play. The tackle has to protect against the inside rush and also sweep outside on an outside rush. Most defensive schemes now work harder on confusing the tackle than the guards or center. It’s also the blind side for a right handed quarterback, so a rusher is far more likely to cause a sack or fumble coming from that direction.
Dallas needs a head coach that will over rule the stupid plays and they need a good quarterback coach that can teach Romo, everything he does comes as raw natural talent and he needs a teacher. Call me crazy, but I would love to see Farve retire and come to Dallas as the quarterback coach.
