CAIRO Archaeologists have unearthed a 2,000-year-old temple that may have been dedicated to the ancient Egyptian cat goddess, Bastet, the Supreme Council of Antiquities said Tuesday. The ruins of the Ptolemaic-era temple were discovered by Egyptian archaeologists in the heart of the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, founded by Alexander the Great in the 4th century B.C.
The city was the seat of the Greek-speaking Ptolemaic Dynasty, which ruled over Egypt for 300 years until the suicide of Queen Cleopatra.
The statement said the temple was thought to belong to Queen Berenice, wife of King Ptolemy III who ruled Egypt in the 3rd century B.C.

This thread’s been going for how long, and no one’s posted a picture of Julie Newmar (as you-know-who)?
I’m female and that’s definitely a guy’s job. Kinda like finishing off the spiders the cat can’t figure out how to. :-)
Cats must have seemed as sent by the gods. They did an essential job of rodent control with no training. They like to hang out with people. They don’t demand a lot. And there are always more of them in a couple months.
See? I knew we could count on our gentleman Freepers to come through!
Well as the saying goes, when a dog gets taken care of the dog THINKS you are a god, but when a cat gets taken care of, they think they are a good. :)=^..^=
Was going to post this article yesterday but forgot, thanks to who ever posted it!
Opps, mispelled, “god”. =^..^=
Being a Goddess Cat is no walk in the park either.
I love this picture of Serious Cat. Sometimes Miss Hissy Slashy (Bobbie) has this exact expression on her face, even though she is a basement cat and not serious at all.
Ha ha! Kiss the Claw, peasant.
Can Samir really say that?
Yoo haz ta start dem owt erly.
That’s interesting regarding the death penalty for killing a cat. Reminds me of how cows are treated in India, still.
Anyway, what I’m wondering now is who killed the cats whose mummies had been found in tombs with (presumably) their owners’ mummified remains?
[I found the cats’ mummies fascinating on a trip to the Field Museum about 16 years ago...]
My son’s cat is now in the house. He’s an old and arthritic Maine Coon Cat. (notice the three capitals) He commands respect without having to do anything. Its been amazing to watch our dachshund and then our desert lynx can, both slightly bigger than Boris, fall into line. Scared of him. I don’t know what he’s telling them but they are totally buying it.
The Egyptians were smart people....cats are supposed to be worshipped and they knew it.
My friend who is a dog lover decided to get another Jack Russel for her dog. They rescued it from the pound....a purebred! Brought it home and the dog kept eating it’s poop and the other dogs poop. My friend said after she kept throwing up in the sink, they took it back.
