Googles Nexus One apparently got Apple worried enough to rush the fourth-generation iPhone ahead of schedule. The upgraded handset should make techies happy while giving iPhone critics a few less reasons to complain.
Officials at KT, Apples exclusive iPhone carrier in South Korea, told the Korea Times that the Californian gadget maker might launch the fourth-generation iPhone in April, ahead of the usual June-July timeframe. Apples in a hurry, sources claim, because the Nexus One, Googles so-called superphone, has upped the ante with its superior hardware based on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and five-megapixel camera.
Sources described the iPhone 4G as having an OLED screen and front-facing camera for videoconferencing. It should run dual-core processors and powerful graphic chips that can deliver higher video resolutions and better still images, in addition to surprise, surprise a removable battery.

But when is Apple going to allow Skype to work over 3G and do push notifications?

Apple allows it, it’s AT&T that doesn’t.

OLED? Those things are terrible in sunlight. I’m not buying that they will do that.
Also, this rushing the phone out idea will be a signal to other platforms that Apple is feeling the heat pretty badly, and has shifted to reactionary mode. And if CES and MWC, where Windows Mobile 7 is going to debut, is any indication, then 2010 is going to be a paradigm shift in the mobile world.

According to the article, Verizon may just be a possibility with the G4 iPhone.

I don't think Win Mobile is going to be much of a player in ten years.
Ten years from now the three main mobile platforms are going to be Blackberry, Android, and the iPhone.
Microsoft essentially missed the boat with regards to the mobile OS.

I’m sorry, but in the word of tech, predictions ten years out carry as much weight as a prediction as to who will win the lotto.
10 years ago, Apple was on the cusp of going out of business, RIM didnt exist in the US, and Palm was the king of PDAs. Google was fighting against Yahoo and AltaVista for searches.

I’m sure AT&T will be able to handle video calling just fine. :/

They say that the jailbroken iPhones do a great job of carrying TV reception over ATT’s 3G network.

Consider me impressed then. I didn’t find AT&T 3G any faster than T-Mo EDGE here in Tulsa.
