I’m sorry, but in the word of tech, predictions ten years out carry as much weight as a prediction as to who will win the lotto.

10 years ago, Apple was on the cusp of going out of business, RIM didnt exist in the US, and Palm was the king of PDAs. Google was fighting against Yahoo and AltaVista for searches.

I hear what you're saying but the big variable in this equation is ( Steve ) Jobs.

Look, the iphone sales have exploded, the App Store is a runaway success, and the whole thing syncs effortlessly into your iTunes program.

I think that Microsoft is trying to squeeze its way into a very crowded field.

The segment of the market that was going to tied to Windows Mobile is now in the process of migrating towards Google/Android. Google licenses out it's OS to manufacturers for free. There's a stampede of developers in Google's direction.

Between Apple, RIM, Palm , Nokia, and Google, I don't see Microsoft re-gaining much of a market share.

I also believe that Apple's acquisition of P.A. Semi, Lala, and Plasebase is going to wind up paying really big dividends.
