Agreed. He was at least willing to look folks squarely in the eye and tell them the “cruel to be kind” truth, so that they wouldn’t waste more of their lives pursuing singing careers uselessly.
And he did it in an entertaining way.
I liked it better when it was called, “The Gong Show.”
With enough money on the line something can always be worked out. Of course ratings have started to slip, so it might not be worth the money it takes to work things out.
I thought David Foster, Steve Perry, Peter Cetera...all would have been solid choices.
I had read Pat Benatar was being courted to replace Paula. I'm disappointed that fell through (if it was ever anything more than an internet rumor in the first place).
Its fun to watch the first try-outs. After that, BLAAAAAAAAAAA.
Wow, this hugh and series considering I have missed all 14 seasons of this show so far. I don’t know what I will do. Imagine not watching deluded teens singing songs unaccompanied and getting abused by marginally B-list (more accurately C-list) Hollywierders? Shoosh, I may have to watch more NFL or History channel programming.
I think he really likes Paula, somehow somebody forced her out, frankly, I liked her too, I know she’s got issues but I still think she made the show ... If Simon leaves the show is done.
What’s 36 million among friends? Especially if it keeps the Idol cash cow afloat.

Yeah, most people say “if I won the lottery” then they say how they would never have to go to work again.
Cowell has more money than any lottery winner could imagine and he still goes to work everyday... still looks for that next big money maker.... still has ventures open for years down the road.

If he were that kind of guy, he wouldn’t have that much money to start with.
LOL!! Who could forget ‘Gene, Gene the Dancing Machine’ or ‘The Unknown Comic’?! Truly an American classic.
Simon is an incredibly talented guy, and for those who comment that that he’s a jerk he is not. He came from nothing, started off at the bottom of the latter, working for free a gopher in the music business, went broke several times, he’s life story is incredible and inspiring, he embodies the hard work ethic of “do it yourself and you can do anything” and he has. Anybody that knows his life stories would agree with that, they should really make a movie about him.

Gordon Ramsey is the only person I know of who could pull off a “simon” with any credibility.
Ellen Degeneres replaced Paula. Ellen is entertaining, but she can’t replace Simon.
My thoughts also.
Ellen DeGeneret took Paula’s place.
