Is anyone else been having problems with Firefox freezing up on them? not shutting down? not responding?
I remember when I first started using Firefox, it ran rock solid. I happilynupdated to newer versions when they became availiable. But over the last handful of versions, i've found that it has been freezing up and not reponding, with an increasing frequency. And with each new vwersion, it's mostly bug and security fixes.. but I just loaded up thne newest version today, and in less than a hour, I found myself, one again, having to use the task manager to shut the non responding Firefox prg down.
Is anyone else expiriencing this?
Most recent upgrade is killing me....
Firefox has always been a memory/resource HOG, even back with version 0.7.
I made a comment about it on their forum and the response was that it ‘must be some add-on/extension.’
BS
Excessive memory use has been a problem for years with Firefox and every version I’ve used. The ver 3 series don’t seem quite as bad, but they still consume memory.
I have had it gobble up 400+ Mb, with no tabs open. The problem is that it consumes, but won’t release memory when tabs are closed.
Yes, it seems to crash about every other hour. Only started happening in the last month.
AVG and Viper I have been told have a background process where they pre-load and run to see what is hidden within. If bad it will spit it out.
This comes from my Computer wonk bud who has had clients systems get hosed before these software packages were upgraded to stop some very nasty new threats that have surfaced within the last month or two.
Yes, adaware can do that, as can any of them actually. Turn off the real time protection and you can tell.
Nope! running just fine.
Must be some OS memory management factors at play there, or add-on problems.
I have an old Compaq laptop running Linux with 192 MB total RAM, often with ~125 MB FREE with Firefox running! (antiX Linux 8.2)
try Apple’s Safari for Windows...
Disable your add-ons completely then reenable them one by one to test performance against a ‘clean’ baseline.
In addition uninstalling Flash player and reinstalling it with the latest version is always advisable.
Thanks mucho
Just downloaded it and started scan
Will let you know if it works!
Do you have any Firefox add-ons? If so, you may have some that have not been updated and are not very friendly with the later versions of Firefox.
That being said - yes, I too have had an increasing number of issues - across platforms - with Firefox. I have returned to primarily using Safari for the time being.
And as far as the suggestion by recommendation of Google Chrome... Umm. The biggest piece of spyware ever created. As if Google didn’t already keep your searches and other data warehoused - now folks are voluntarily turning their whole computer over to them... real smart.
2 x XP and one Vista.
Firefox will no longer let me log onto myspace without telling me to “upgrade my browser.” After upgrading I received the same message.
Never thought I’d go back to IE, but I have to.
I had the same problem, then I loaded FasterFox, an add-on that you can get from Mozilla site.
Give it aa try before you dump Firefox, it made an incredible difference for me!

I am running Firefox 3.5.7 on XP - no problems.
I downgraded to 3.0. Much better.
“256 mgs”
My dad was complaining with same issue - slow surfing...
I saw he was running just 256 of ram. I put another 512mb stick in his machine - viola!
He’s happy with it now.
(get more ram - its cheap!)
Nope. No problems here, but then I’m running it on Linux. Can’t speak to your winders install.
