Firefox has always been a memory/resource HOG, even back with version 0.7.
I made a comment about it on their forum and the response was that it ‘must be some add-on/extension.’
BS
Excessive memory use has been a problem for years with Firefox and every version I’ve used. The ver 3 series don’t seem quite as bad, but they still consume memory.
I have had it gobble up 400+ Mb, with no tabs open. The problem is that it consumes, but won’t release memory when tabs are closed.
Must be some OS memory management factors at play there, or add-on problems.
I have an old Compaq laptop running Linux with 192 MB total RAM, often with ~125 MB FREE with Firefox running! (antiX Linux 8.2)
Yes, I’m having problems too. Months ago I downloaded the latest version (at the time). My task manager will tell me that it is using 100% CPU usage.
If I walk away from the computer for a couple of minutes and then start using the mouse again, firefox freezes up. It’s a pain.
I wrote a message/question on their help board on a thread where others were having the same problem. They blew it off. Said the problems must be individual not systematic. Said to download the latest version and to change/check your user profile. I haven’t gotten around to screwing around with it.
I have a lot of tabs open (I’m hard on computers) but when it consumes a Gig of memory, I shut it down.
