Well, here it is, the final game of the 2009 college football season. For much of the bowl season, I've had to work, get my car fixed, and Google search any insignificant question and computer problem my grandparents call me about. (You would think with their age and guile they'd have the answers to various things readily available. You would think). So needless to say, this has kept me from my assigned college football commenting duties. For that I apologize, but tonight I will get the festivities going. So without further ado...
The BCS National Championship Game: Alabama vs. Texas (8:00 pm) From the moment this matchup was set, I've been pondering what the key to this game should be and ultimately what it will be. Could it be the Longhorn offensive line having a chance to contain the legendary Mt. Cody? How about the Tide secondary and what they'll have to do to contain Jordan Shipley? And let us not forget the mystery of chessboxing that could occur between Nick Saban and Mack Brown. But I keep hearing that the Tide are going to make mince meat of the Horns, and that kind of ignores recent history. What did we learn from the last time we saw Texas in a title game? We should have learned not to count them out, right? So keep this in mind before we coronate a team in a game like this. In my usual neutral third party kind of observational style though, that doesn't necessarily mean that the Tide aren't every bit as good as advertised. I happen to think so, for whatever that's truly worth.
I did, I’m going to have to read it this summer when I’m done with the Shelby Foote Civil War trilogy.
I don’t know if I’m reading your post correctly....are you suggesting that Colt McCoy was not really hurt but was taken out of the game for other purposes?
18 is mighty young to jump in and lead 22-23 year old seniors to a national championship while 275 pounders or bigger are trying to kill ya
We’re lucky they didn’t mangle Gilbert while they had the chance.
Well he’s running as a Republican - not sure if he could win or not, but seriously doubt anyone in West Texas or current Texas Tech fans would vote for him....so we could lose the seat to a liberal puke. Let’s hope he doesn’t get any further than campaigning in Jim Sowell’s living room in Dallas
Or maybe 4th cause BCS sucks ***.
Hope we're all still here in ten years when Joe Paterno decides to retire.
Guy's last game before signing a pro contract too. They might be a little more cautious as a result of that.
The hit Rothlisberger took in a game recently looked much worse and Rothlisberger came right back out.
We saw McCoy move his arm when he clapped after getting hit and he didn't look hurt. So he was capable of moving the arm. We don't see him even try to make a throwing motion with the arm. So his claim of not being able to feel the arm doesn't seem to standup as he was able to move it immediately after being hit.
When you watch the video I linked to my original post here on this you can see that he moves his throwing arm after the hit.
If he can move the arm ok, why wouldn't he play is the question.
We can see him moving the arm after the hit.
Other than that he didn't try to move it that I can see. Why doesn't he at least try to move it again?
Anything not impossible I view as a possibility.

His arm had no feeling (i.e., nerve damage). It was not paralyzed...he could move it. He tried to throw the ball while he was in the locker room to his Dad and had no control over where the ball went. So, a quarterback with no control of the ball would be of very little good in the game. The team doctors and trainers did not clear him to go back into the game. People can speculate all they want to.
