Well, here it is, the final game of the 2009 college football season. For much of the bowl season, I've had to work, get my car fixed, and Google search any insignificant question and computer problem my grandparents call me about. (You would think with their age and guile they'd have the answers to various things readily available. You would think). So needless to say, this has kept me from my assigned college football commenting duties. For that I apologize, but tonight I will get the festivities going. So without further ado...
The BCS National Championship Game: Alabama vs. Texas (8:00 pm) From the moment this matchup was set, I've been pondering what the key to this game should be and ultimately what it will be. Could it be the Longhorn offensive line having a chance to contain the legendary Mt. Cody? How about the Tide secondary and what they'll have to do to contain Jordan Shipley? And let us not forget the mystery of chessboxing that could occur between Nick Saban and Mack Brown. But I keep hearing that the Tide are going to make mince meat of the Horns, and that kind of ignores recent history. What did we learn from the last time we saw Texas in a title game? We should have learned not to count them out, right? So keep this in mind before we coronate a team in a game like this. In my usual neutral third party kind of observational style though, that doesn't necessarily mean that the Tide aren't every bit as good as advertised. I happen to think so, for whatever that's truly worth.
As a UT fan you should be more pissed at your defense for allowing them to score.
Don’t confuse your opinions with facts. Auburn gives Bama way more hell than Bama gives Auburn.
I got to admit, though that Auburn really gave us a scare this year.
Really, I don’t think there’s ever been a championship game this close with a frosh QB running it.
And Gilbert is literally 19, or maybye just 20
Texas played an awesome game as well. They were very well-coached.
Thanks for posting these for us all year. Can’t believe the season is over.
Just saw the postgame interview with Colt. He is a class guy. Best of luck to him for the rest of his career.
Classy interview by McCoy.
Except for that bone-head call at the end of the half.
Thanks for a season of great threads, Raider!!!
I wish my dad could have lived to see this game tonight. I honestly don’t know who he would’ve rooted for (preposition fail). Born and raised in Alabama. Law school at UT and never left Texas after that. He loved both teams dearly. I’ll bet he is smiling right now! :)
Thanks again for your super threads!
Texas played well, and with heart. That quarterback is going to be something by the time he’s a senior.
Thanks for another great season of manning the College football threads, GOP_Raider !!!!! Appreciate all you do.
Let me also take a few moments to say it’s been a tremendous pleasure and joy to write these threads every week and to entertain you this season. We’ve had some interlopers of course, but I like to think all of us have had some fun along the way. Even with the goings on in my own life, it puts a smile on my face to see the praise I get from writing and hosting these threads every week. What do you say we do this again nine months from now?
I’ll see you all on the various threads in the offseason. And as always...Go Utes!!
Saban for President.
Thank you......and Go Gators!!!
I would have liked to have won, and if McCoy played it would have been a different game, but I'm not going to diss Bama. That was a clean hit on McCoy and it happens. The Tide played with class and Texas put up a good fight with a freshman QB. Great game, wish my team had won, but Alabama's the best in the country.
He is truly a class act, isn’t he? I love that he never fails to give God the glory. He’s going to be a success at whatever he does in his life.
Yep. After what they did to us in Atlanta there's no disputing that.
Thank you GOP_Raider
McCoy and his whole family are total down-to-earth and Texan.
So are Gilberts, they’re from Lakeway, just 10 miles West of UT. Texas Hill Country.
Some were expecting Bama blew us out by 20 pts WITH McCoy.
Toast: to new talent.
