Gentlemen,
May I present my newest acquisition. A genuine "service grade" M1 Garand.
I told everyone that this was a "Christmas gift from my uncle" which, in a way it was. I ordered this from the CMP the first week in December. I expected it around February but it showed up Christmas Eve. How's that for a government agency?
Take another look at this bad boy.
All I wanted was a shooter but this gun is beautiful. The stock is a little off but a little Tung oil will fix that right up. I am posting this for a reason. The word is that this is one of a bunch recently returned to the US from the Greek Air Force that were hardly every used and after looking at this one I believe it.
It's a postwar Springfield produced 1955-57. What a deal. $595 plus $22.96 shipping and even in California FedEx drops it off at your front door. I had been thinking about getting one of the since the late 70's and am I glad I waited until now to pull the trigger (heh). If you're a Vet you're pretty much good to go on getting one of these. If you've been thinking about getting one the time will never be better. Go to a gun show and see what these go for. You know you want one. Don't put it off any longer. They also have the Greek HXP 30-06 coming in the January. This is your chance. Go for it!
Congrats. You never forget your first Garand.
I want one bad and this price isnt bad, but I hate to buy sight unseen.
If indeed there is a new load of greek rifles in decent shape they will show up at the local FFL
I will add 10% for his profit and to hand select
Is there such a thing as Hakim Thumb?
Them bastages bite!
I got a correct grade about a year-and-a-half ago which cost about $800 or so. I took it to a local gunsmith who has quite a reputation when it comes to service rifles. He is of the opinion that it was hardly fired. I’ve heard from others who’ve bought from CMP lately and all brag about what great condition the M1’s are in.
The damned thing is so nice I haven’t fired it yet. Maybe I need to order another to use as a ‘shooter’.
Very cool, thanks!
That’s the thing. What’s its condition? I’d also pay a bit more to have look for myself.
And to you to my FRiend!
Dang, yes I do!
Congrats and Merry Christmas!
Thank you for making our job easier. All we need now is your address.
Have a nice day.:-))
Your friendly neighborhood ATF jack-booted thug.
I found a beautiful one in an estate sale from a guy who collected them,Sling bayonet, all the details where perfect...
It was perfect, except when it was reimported into the USA, Century arms gun monkeys electro penciled “century” on the pristine finish.
It was mint other than that.
I kinda still regret not buying it
Let the Greeks cook the lamb.
We’ll take care of the M1 Garands
I do ! I have CMP Garands that Brownshirts leave on my door in a package .....LOL !
I remember buying thru the post office and such as you state from old gun magazines etc ......back when real people were in charge of freedom and criminals were kept in prison...... electric chair or hanged till dead !

Got a few just like em., yours looks to be in great shape A.D. !
You can never have enough M-1 Garands, so buy one from CMP and another at a gun show.
That old GI bore cleaner was some NASTY stuff!
I still have a can of it in my kit box although seldom use it as it stinks so. It works well to neutralize the old corrosive WW-II era mercuric priming, which is still used in most foreign military ammo. You don’t need it for modern US ammo though; Hoppe’s #9 will work just fine.
Personally, I like Ballistol.
The last update from CMP indicated that they recently got a boat load of the excellent Greek milsurp “HXP” M-2 Ball ammo in which they expect to last quite a while.
I got a can of it and it is top rate stuff.
Some shooters opine that it is even more accurate than the US Lake City Arsenal ammo.
It is loaded specifically for the M-1, but shoots great in the bolt guns like the Springfield or Remington 1917 as well.
I turn some of it into 7.62 X 51mm NATO by shortening the case, necking it down, and reducing the powder charge somewhat.
Our club recently sold their 2 CMP M-1s as hardly anyone uses them in competition any more - most shooters have gone to the M1-A or M-16 / AR-15 varients.
The M-1 is still a great range blaster and a lot of fun - also a wonderful piece of history.
Just watch that thumb!! ** {8^{Q~
